Belfast, Northern Ireland — Junior Brendan Barry put on a long-distance clinic at the SSE Arena Belfast on Friday, drilling seven 3-pointers in a 91-77 win over Albany in which the Big Green sank a total of 17 shots from beyond the arc.

The win in the Samson Division consolation game of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic gave the Big Green (4-4) a split of its Irish road trip. Barry finished the game with 25 points for Dartmouth, while junior James Foye and sophomore Chris Knight both set career highs with 20 points apiece.

Cameron Healy (24 points) and Ahmad Clark (23) both topped the 20-point plateau for the Great Danes (2-6).

Barry, the NCAA’s active career leader in 3-point percentage, finished one point shy of his career best, hitting nine of 13 from the field overall and seven of 11 from 3-point range. Foye likewise did most of his damage from downtown, going 5-of-6 on treys and 6-of-9 overall. The 6-foot-7 Knight hit his lone 3-point try and was 7-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the foul line to account for his 20 points.

Dartmouth was 17-for-33 from long range (.515) and 30-of-57 overall from the floor (.526). The Big Green also dished out 21 assists on those 30 hoops, their best mark since compiling 24 against Notre Dame last season.

Dartmouth wasted little time in establishing a hot hand, as Jackson buried a triple on Dartmouth’s first shot of the game. The Big Green never trailed, as Barry rained down his first attempt on the next possession.

Knight took over for the next three minutes, tallying eight straight points for a 14-9 lead five minutes in. Knight’s last bucket started a 17-0 run for the Big Green, which eventually sported a 20-point lead at 29-9.

Dartmouth returns home to start a four-game home stand on Wednesday against Quinnipiac.

Girls Basketball

Mascoma 45, Campbell 44

West Canaan — The young Royals (1-0) settled down during an active second half to nip the Cougars in the teams’ season opener.

Mascoma’s Lizz Pelton led all scorers with 17 points, and Michaela Dowd added 13 as the hosts built an 18-14 halftime lead. The Royals managed their way through foul trouble over the final 16 minutes, never letting Campbell take control.

“In the end, we settled down,” Mascoma coach Walter Hammond said. “We settled down on offense and put a press on them and sped them up. It was basically (a matter of) controlling it. We got control and once we settled down on offense, we took better shots.”

Bella Kondi contributed seven points for the Royals, who visit Newport on Tuesday.

Woodsville 36, Profile 26

Bethlehem, n.h. — With a young roster still learning to identify defenses, the Engineers (1-0) used their own ability to stop to get a win in their season opener.

Woodsville limited the Patriots to two points in the opening quarter and eight in the opening half to build a comfortable lead. It proved key in the second half, when Profile’s own defensive switches bamboozled the Engineers.

“We played great defense as a team,” Woodsville coach Russ Wilcox said. “It was just good man-to-man. They all communicated well, and they rebounded well.”

Olivia Sarkis led three Engineers in double figures with 11 points. Emily Prest and Mackenzie Kingsbury each contributed 10 points for Woodsville, which visits Gorham on Tuesday.

Hinsdale 57, Sunapee 33

Sunapee — The defending NHIAA Division IV state champion Pacers had their hands full for a half before pulling away from the Lakers (0-1) at Sherburne Gym.

Hinsdale used a 32-point second half to pull away from a 25-24 halftime scuffle.

Sunapee is off until it hosts Farmington on Friday night.

Women’s Hockey

Dartmouth 4, Union 2

Hanover — The Big Green (3-7-1, 2-4-0 league) bounced back from a first-minute Union goal to beat the Dutchwomen (2-11-2, 0-4-1) at Thompson Arena.

Freshman Sara McClanahan highlighted the win by scoring Dartmouth’s first shorthanded goal in more than three years. Fellow frosh Gabby Billing scored once and assisted once, Sydney Hill earned a pair of helpers, and Jennifer Costa and Christina Rombaut provided the Big Green’s other goals.

Rachel de Perio put Union on the board just 37 seconds into the contest, but the hosts reeled off the next three to take control. Christine Honor made 22 saves for Dartmouth, which hosts Rensselaer this afternoon.
