Newport — Kristin Lake’s trial on negligent homicide charges in connection with a September 2017 crash on Route 10 in Croydon that killed two Newport residents started on Thursday with jurors visiting the scene.

The Sullivan County jury was shuttled by bus to the corner where the crash occurred, which is just north of Cross Road on Route 10. Officials shut down the roadway during the site view.

Lake, 23, of Sharon, has pleaded not guilty to negligent homicide—DUI charges that allege she drove drunk, fell asleep and crossed the centerline, colliding with a car driven by Michelle Fenimore, 20. Fenimore and her 18-year-old passenger, Nicholas Carpenter, died as a result of injuries they sustained.

The defense contends Fenimore is to blame for the crash.

Also on Wednesday, New Hampshire State Police Trooper Dan Quartulli, who is a member of the state police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, retook the stand. Jurors also heard from several other witnesses.

The trial will continue this morning and is slated to last through Friday.
