Joseph Asch

Hanover, N.H. — Joseph Charles Asch, born Nov. 21, 1957, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our son, Joey, at the age of 60. Beloved oldest son of Bob and Rosie, brother to Peter and Richard, and his late sister, Kate. Husband of Elizabeth Austin, and father of Henry and Tory.

He was a successful entrepreneur who loved to create and build businesses. Joey graduated from Dartmouth College in 1979 and Yale Law School in 1983. He briefly worked for Bain & Co, then formed a successful paramedical supply company in France. After returning to the U.S., he settled in Hanover and invested in and eventually co-owned the River Valley Club, a health and fitness Center. He added a day care called Fit Kids which he was so passionate about. He built up the club into a very successful fitness center.

He renewed his involvement with Dartmouth in 1998, and formed the Departmental Editing Program which he created and personally funded for nine years to improve student writing. Joey took over Dartblog in 2009, using the platform to advise and counsel the college’s leadership, always looking to improve his beloved college.

Joe’s intellectual capacities were of the highest order and he always relished a healthy discussion and a lively debate. He enjoyed a good joke and spent much time enjoying the Dartmouth campus where he would take lengthy walks with friends and family. Joe will be sorely missed by so many.

A memorial service will be held in Hanover. on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Dartmouth Outing Club.

An online guestbook is available to leave Joe’s family a message of condolence by visiting www.rickrfuneralhome.com.
