Around 12:40 a.m., a man with a gunshot wound to the neck arrived at Golden Cross Ambulance’s headquarters in Claremont and was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment, according to a joint news release from New Hampshire State Police, Claremont police and Charlestown police on Tuesday afternoon.
The man, who police have not identified, suffered serious injures that don’t appear to be life-threatening, the release said.
The assault took place on High Street in Claremont, and during the early morning investigation, police developed “information” that led them to Twin Valley Estates mobile home park off Lovers Lane Road in Charlestown, according to the release, which made no mention of any arrests.
Officials didn’t elaborate on just what information led them to Twin Valley Estates.
A New Hampshire State Police SWAT team was on the scene at the park, formerly known as Morways Park, throughout the morning.
Police executed a search warrant at a mobile home on Oakwood Circle, the release said, and reopened access to the park around 11:30 a.m.
Canaan resident Dean Vanier, who co-owns the park with his wife, was monitoring the situation from Lovers Lane Road and was on hand to help residents.
“It’s typically a very quiet community,” Vanier said, adding that there are about 145 homes in the development. “It’s a wonderful place to live.”
Mariah Rounds, a mother of four waiting in her car with a young child, said she generally agreed, though she thought there had “been a couple of drug busts” in the neighborhood in recent months.
Police left the Charlestown park around noon and staged at a nearby state highway garage off Route 11/12. There were more than a dozen cruisers, as well as the New Hampshire State Police armored vehicle.
Also on Tuesday, Claremont police continued to investigate the assault, which occurred on High Street in Claremont, a narrow street that parallels Broad Street, Claremont Police Chief Mark Chase said.
A portion of the street remained shuttered while officers canvassed the area as part of the investigation. Claremont police cleared that scene around 3 p.m., Chase said.
The situation appears isolated and there is no known threat to the public, police said.
