Quechee, Vt. —
Lewis was born in Northampton, Mass., on July 26, 1949, the son of Newton and Mary Maury McKeon. Lewis grew up in Amherst, Mass. and graduated from Middlebury College in 1972. He married Barbara Twichell in Kensington, Conn., on June 30, 1973. Together they first owned a home in Strafford, Vt. before building a home in Lebanon where they would raise their children. Lewis was most comfortable outdoors and a life-long hiker, skier, cyclist, and boater-paddler. He was an Appalachian Mountain Club hutman in the late 1960s and a talented craftsman and engineer.
Lewis is survived by his wife Barbara McKeon, his daughter Sarah King McKeon Barabas and her husband James Barabas; his son Ryan McKeon and his wife Tricia McKeon; his four young grandchildren; and his siblings Maury McKeon, Edith Abbott, and Seamus McKeon.
We would like to thank family, friends, and the staff at Valley Terrace in Hartford, Vt. who helped him continue to enjoy the things he loved despite the progression of his disease.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that contributions be made to either the Appalachian Mountain Club or the Jack Byrne Center at DHMC.
We will be gathering to remember Lewis at Dowd’s Country Inn in Lyme at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. Please wear relaxed attire and bring fond memories and lots of laughter.
