Germain Melancon

Lebanon, N.H. — Germain “Jim” J. Melancon, 78, passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018. He was born in St. Guillaume, Quebec Canada to the late William & Germaine (Theroux) Melancon. Jim graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1958. He proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He married the love of his life, Theresa Mooney on September 14th almost 50 years ago. He worked for Joy Manufacturing, The Smuggler, Datamann and then retired from Central Paper in Manchester, N.H. in 2002. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Past Grand Knight and Navigator of the Knights of Columbus holding 3rd & 4th Degrees, and the Twin State Pastoral Council.

Jim enjoyed puttering in his shop making anything he thought might be useful, taking great pride in the organization of his numerous workspaces. He loved his little red Geo convertible that was also used to teach, or attempt to teach, his grandkids how to drive a standard. One of his greatest passions was driving his tractors; mowing, digging holes, grading, plowing or just towing the kids around on the trailer. Above all, spending time with his family brought him the most joy. Whether it be traveling or watching his grandkids play sports, he embraced every moment.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Roger Melanson, and sister, Venise Sherette.

He is survived by his wife Theresa (Terry); his daughter Kelly Thorburn and her husband, Ray of Thetford, Vt., his son Patrick Melancon and his wife, Michelle of Old Hickory, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Trish, Brianna, Dylan and Emma; and a brother Laurier Melancon.

Family and friends are invited to Jim’s memorial mass at the Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception downstairs.

Jim’s burial will be held on a later date at the convenience of the family.
