North Haverhill — A 30-year-old New Hampshire man who police say attacked a Lebanon officer and fled on foot behind Walmart on Interchange Drive in West Lebanon in February pleaded guilty on Thursday to two counts of simple assault.

Shawn M. Mooney, of Gilsum, N.H., was sentenced to 2½ to five years in prison, a sentence that will be served concurrently with another penalty from Hillsborough County. He also received an additional suspended 2½- to five-year sentence, Grafton County Attorney Lara Saffo said.

As part of a plea agreement, the state dismissed other charges Mooney faced in connection with the incident. Police said Mooney attacked and attempted to “gouge out one of (an officer’s) eyes,” according to a Lebanon Police Department news release issued shortly after the incident.

At the time of his February arrest, Mooney was wanted by the U.S. Federal Marshal Service on outstanding warrants.
