Brattleboro, Vt. —
He was born and raised in the Upper Valley. After high school, he traveled a bit, attended the University of Southern Maine, and then moved to New York City. Years later he returned to Vermont, and most recently resided in Brattleboro.
From a young age Nate was sweet, creative and talented. He loved music and had special interests in design and philosophy. He demonstrated a thirst for knowledge, and the communication of his beliefs, even in the most adverse circumstances. Nate will be remembered for his sense of humor that brought smiles to his family and friends. He made silly jokes, yet his thoughts were deep. His bright smile and his wonderful, sincere hugs will be long remembered and missed. Nate was a loving and passionate father.
We mourn Nate’s passing and every day we remember the rare gift he might have never known that he was.
Nathaniel was predeceased by his older brother, Justin Kautz, and his infant son, Max Hughey. He leaves behind his wife, Meredith Hughey; his mother Adele Sweet-McFarlin; sisters, Elliott Kautz and Lisa Banks; as well as multiple loving aunts, uncles, cousins; and a niece and nephew.
