Lebanon, N.H. — James D. Culver of Lebanon passed away peacefully during his sleep the evening of Monday, June 4, 2018, at Lebanon Genesis where he received wonderful care. His passing was one day short of his 87th birthday. He was known to many Lebanon residents as “Jim” and was well liked from his store management career at the First National Store on Hanover Street for many years.

He was born on June 5, 1931, in Montpelier, Vt. to James and Gladys Culver. He graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre, Vt. in 1949. Jim served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954. During that time, he married Jeanette Converse on Dec. 20, 1950, in East Calais, Vt.

Family members include his wife, Jeanette, a resident at Harvest Hill in Lebanon; his children, James (Linda) Culver of Littleton, N.H., Richard (Kandace) Culver of West Lebanon, N.H. and Jane (Benjamin) Beede of Bellevue, Neb. He was a beloved Grandpa to six grandchildren and Great Grandpa to four great grandchildren. Jim also leaves behind two siblings, Patricia (John) Booth of Andover, Mass. and William (Roberta) Culver of Braintree, Vt.; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jim always had a comical story or song for his children and grandchildren, reflecting on his days of hunting, fishing or everyday life. During the last few years of his life, he was an especially caring man, attending to his wife and always respected his family for their successes. He was one of the last “original settlers” of the Riverdale neighborhood in Lebanon, leaving behind a long time friend and neighbor, Albert Dolloph.
