Lyme, N.H. —
He grew up in Lebanon, N.H. where he graduated from Lebanon High School in 1955. After graduation, Arthur and his classmate and lifelong friend Wayne Bates entered the service where they served their country together for two years in the Army. Upon leaving the Army, Arthur met and married the love of his life, Donna (Pushee) Laro on Feb. 20, 1960. The two of them then purchased Donna’s grandmothers home known as Grammy Grace Ulines just north of Lyme village in 1961.
Arthur worked for Bailey Brothers of West Lebanon for 43 years where he was their paint manager. Anyone who knew him from those days knew that Art would always greet them with a smile and great service. Arthur also served as captain of the Lyme volunteer fire department for 43 years as well. Those who knew him then knew his dedication and his unwavering loyalty to his call of duty as their captain was something he took great pride in.
Arthur and Donna adopted two daughters, Joanna and Jessica Laro and raised them in Lyme. Donna and Art purchased a camp on the back side of Post Pond in Lyme in 1973 where Art and his family spent a great deal of time, for Arthur loved to fish and canoe as well as relax at their camp. It’s not a coincidence that he loved it so much as he had spent his summers there as a boy along with his brothers at Camp Pinnacle in Lyme where his father Ernest worked as a cook.
Arthur is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Dorothy Laro; along with his sister, Shirley (Laro) Benoit; and infant daughter, Lisa Marie who passed away in 1963. He is also predeceased by his loving wife, Donna who was certainly his voice and ears for many years, for Arthur had survived a severe stroke in 1991 and of course Donna was always there. Sadly, on July 30, 2008, his loving wife Donna succumbed to cancer. After Donna’s passing, friends along with family from both sides stepped in to help a grief stricken Arthur confront life without his beloved wife. Arthur is survived by his two daughters, Joanna and Jessica Laro and their children; his brothers, Reggie and Phil Laro along with their wives, Pam and Joan. He also has many nieces and nephews from both sides of his family who all will miss his larger than life smile and witty sense of humor.
Arthur will be buried alongside his beloved wife Donna and his infant daughter Lisa Marie in Highland Cemetery in Lyme at a later date.
Any donations can be made to the Lyme fire department in Arthur’s name.
