New York — Luis Severino struck out 11 in seven overpowering innings, beating longtime Yankees nemesis Dallas Keuchel for the second time this year as New York topped the Houston Astros, 5-3, on Wednesday night.

Gary Sanchez snapped an 0-for-19 slump with a two-run single and the Yankees took two of three from the reigning World Series champions this week to win the season series 5-2. Houston defeated New York in the 2017 AL Championship Series, with the home team winning all seven games.

Severino (8-1) allowed four hits, including Max Stassi’s two-run homer, and walked one in winning his sixth consecutive decision.

Indians 9, White Sox 1

Cleveland — Corey Kluber pitched six shutout innings and reached eight victories before any AL pitcher as the Indians rolled to their fifth straight win.

The defending AL Cy Young Award winner allowed three hits, struck out 10 and improved to 4-0 with a 0.33 ERA in four starts against Central Division teams this season.

Brewers 3, Cardinals 2

Milwaukee — Alex Reyes pitched four scoreless innings for St. Louis in his return from Tommy John surgery, but Orlando Arcia hit a tiebreaking RBI single in Milwaukee’s two-run seventh.

Reds 7, Diamondbacks 4

Phoenix — Adam Duvall’s grand slam erased an early four-run deficit, and Cincinnati rallied for the victory.

Nationals 2, Orioles 0

Baltimore — Max Scherzer pitched eight innings of two-hit ball to earn his eighth consecutive victory, Bryce Harper hit his 18th home run and Washington beat Baltimore for a three-game sweep.

Scherzer (9-1) struck out 12, walked one and retired 24 of 27 batters.

Pirates 2, Cubs 1

Pittsburgh — Joe Musgrove pitched seven strong innings, and his hard slide led to both teams emptying their benches in another tense moment in the series between NL Central rivals, leading Pittsburgh over Chicago.

Musgrove (2-0) helped end the Pirates’ four-game losing streak by overcoming a shaky first inning to allow one run on seven hits and four walks. Musgrove slid hard into second baseman Javier Baez to break up a potential double play in the third inning. Baez was knocked off balance, but did not hit the ground.

Mets 4, Braves 1

Atlanta — Brandon Nimmo and Adrian Gonzalez each drove in two runs, Jason Vargas pitched five scoreless innings and New York beat Atlanta.

Tigers 6, Angels 1

Detroit — Jose Iglesias’ two-run single keyed a Detroit’s five-run sixth as the Tigers took advantage of Shohei Ohtani’s departure following the second rain delay to beat Los Angeles.

Ohtani, starting for the first time since May 20th, allowed one run ond three hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out five while throwing 83 pitches.
