Lebanon Garden Club Seeks Volunteer Planters

Lebanon — The Lebanon Garden Club is looking for volunteers to help plant flowers in downtown Lebanon Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, May 29-31, from 6-8 p.m. each evening.

“Bringing the beauty of nature to our urban core enhances people’s sense of place and pride in the community,” said Kathy Petuck, who is organizing the planting event. “When volunteers are working in the public gardens we receive positive comments from residents and visitors who appreciate the beauty of our downtown.”

Although the garden club has become smaller in recent years, Petuck said that the organization is always looking for volunteers for planting events and to help maintain the flower beds downtown throughout the summer. Petuck said that volunteering with the club is a way to contribute to the community while taking advantage of a social opportunity.

“The most exciting thing for me is to start with a large empty bed, and when you are done it is beautiful and full of hundreds of plants. All summer long you think ‘I helped to make that happen,’” she said. “Gardeners like to share the results of their efforts and this is a good way to do it. It’s fun to chat with other gardeners and share tips.”

Novices who would like to learn more about gardening are always welcome to attend as well. People who would like to help plant can meet at the long flower bed in front of Salt hill Pub and Citizens Bank in downtown Lebanon.
