North Haverhill, N.H. — Charles Edgar Hanson, Sr., 82, of Reservoir Lane, died at his home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. 

Charles was born on Jan. 24, 1936, in Island Pond, Vt., to John Earl and Evelyn Grace (Worth) Hanson. He was a graduate of Haverhill Academy, Class of 1955.

Charles was a member of the Army National Guard for 32 years, retiring in 1995 attaining a rank of Lt. Col. He served in Korea and as a Ft. Dix trainer, he was chosen to carry the State of N.H. flag down Broadway in New York City, under the command of General O’Neal. He was the plant manager for Northeast Hardwood for 25 years and the resident cashier at the Glencliff Home for 15 years.  

Active in community affairs, he served as a water and light and precinct commissioner and treasurer for North Haverhill. He was a member of the North Haverhill Fire Department and belonged to the former Grafton Kane Masonic Lodge # 46 of North Haverhill for over 20 years and was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Past Master, and Worshipful Master. In his spare time, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, ice fishing, fly fishing, and driving around enjoying the beauty of Mother Nature and wildlife.  

He married his wife, Sandra, on Aug. 14, 1971 and she predeceased him on Jan. 18, 2016.  

He is survived by a daughter, Kim Blowey and husband Steve of Haverhill; two sons, Charles E. Hanson, Jr. and wife Melissa of North Woodstock, N.H., and Troy Dodge and wife Penny of Littleton, N.H.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Joyce Lee, Patricia Easterling, James Hanson, Earl “Sonny” Hanson, and Richard Hanson; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his faithful pal, Bandit.   

There will be an hour of calling time on Thursday, May 17 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, N.H., with a funeral service beginning at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the Horse Meadow Cemetery, North Haverhill.
