Naples, Maine —
He was born in Hanover, N.H., on June 28, 1937, a son of Raymond R. and Cordelia Mae (Rodger) Philbrook. He graduated Hanover High in 1955, and entered the US Navy where he attended the US Naval Commissary School. He met and soon married Mary Esther French on June 17, 1957. David and Mary resided in Lebanon until 1976 following his discharge. He worked for Split Ball Bearing as a machinist for 13 years, but was drawn back to using his Naval Commissary training to become a Baker and Chef Manager for a food service corporation serving Kimball Union Academy as well as other food service accounts in the Northeast.
David and his wife Mary moved to Naples, Maine in January of ’76, where he became Food Service Director for Bridgton Academy. He managed other food service accounts throughout New England over the years, ending his career in his 70s at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, Maine.
David enjoyed softball, fishing, camping, carpentry, creating ice sculptures, as well as bird watching and spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his Chihuahua Stubby. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Marie (Philbrook) Capen of Naples, (formerly of Lebanon,) his brother Paul R. Philbrook of South Hero, Vt.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
David is predeceased by his wife, Mary Esther (French) Philbrook in 2013; a daughter, Marina Anne Geneseo; parents, Cordelia Mae (Rodger) Philbrook and Raymond R. Philbrook of Norwich; a sister, Jean French (formerly of Norwich); as well as nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
David will join his wife Mary in a Committal Service for both on June 17, 2018, at 11 a.m., Crooked River Cemetery, Naples, Maine on what would have been a celebration of their 61st Wedding Anniversary.
