Baltimore — Carlos Carrasco outpitched Kevin Gausman in a tight duel, and a two-run homer by Yonder Alonso carried the Cleveland Indians past the struggling Baltimore Orioles, 2-1, on Monday night.

Carrasco (4-0) allowed one run and six hits over 7⅓ innings to win his 10th straight decision since Aug. 27. He struck out seven and walked two.

Andrew Miller got the last two outs in the eighth and Cody Allen struck out the side in the ninth for his fourth save.

Gausman (1-2) gave up two runs and four hits over eight innings, striking out seven with only one walk — to leadoff hitter Francisco Lindor in the first inning.

Gausman retired the final 10 batters he faced and 16 of the last 17, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Orioles from losing for the ninth time in 10 games.

Cleveland took three of four from the Orioles and is 9-2 against Baltimore over the last two seasons.

Yankees 14, Twins 1

New York — Rookie Miguel Andujar homered and doubled to extend his barrage of extra-base hits, Didi Gregorius had a grand slam and New York hammered Minnesota for its first three-game winning streak under new manager Aaron Boone.

Slumping Giancarlo Stanton homered in going 4-for-4 and Gleyber Torres singled for his first major league hit, a day after the prized 21-year-old made his debut with the Yankees.

The teams hadn’t met since New York topped the Twins, 8-4, in the AL wild-card game last October at Yankee Stadium. This was no contest as Minnesota lost its fourth in a row and brought in center fielder Ryan LaMarre to pitch in the eighth inning — Tyler Austin tagged him for a two-run homer.

Reds 10, Braves 4

Cincinnati — Jesse Winker’s bases-loaded single provided Cincinnati’s first lead in six games, and the Reds — off to the worst start in their history — rallied for their first victory under interim manager Jim Riggleman, beating Atlanta.

The Reds are 4-18, the worst start in the majors since Baltimore opened with an identical mark in 2010. They fired manager Bryan Price on Thursday and got swept in a three-game series at St. Louis under Riggleman.

The smallest crowd at Great American Ball Park in nine years — 9,463 — saw the Reds get only their second win at home and match their season high in runs.

Angels 2, Astros 0

Houston — Yuli Gurriel was thrown out at third base by catcher Martin Maldonado to end the game after an original safe call was reversed on replay, giving Los Angeles a win over Houston that ended the Astros’ six-game winning streak.

Gurriel singled off Keynan Middleton leading off the ninth inning. Alex Bregman then walked. After a pair of strikeouts, Middleton threw a slider in the dirt to Max Stassi that bounced off Maldonado’s leg toward third base. The catcher pounced on the ball and threw to third where Luis Valbuena tagged Gurriel, who slid head first. Umpire Cory Blaser signaled safe. After the replay was shown on the video board, fans started filing out even before the out call was given about 90 seconds after the tag. Middleton earned his sixth save.

White Sox 10, Mariners 4

Chicago — Jose Abreu had four hits that included a pair of home runs, Yoan Moncada was a single shy of the cycle and Chicago beat Seattle to end a seven-game losing streak.

Chicago became the first big league team to open a game with seven straight hits since Colorado against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Sept. 17, 2014, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Athletics 9, Rangers 4

Arlington, Texas — Marcus Semien hit a tiebreaking homer on the first pitch of the ninth inning and surging Oakland won its third straight, beating Texas.

The Athletics (12-11) have won seven of eight, and have a winning record for the first time since they won their season opener before a three-game losing streak.

Red Sox Return Elias to Seattle

Boston — The Boston Red Sox traded left-hander Roenis Elias to the Seattle Mariners for future considerations.

The Red Sox announced the trade on Monday.

Elias was 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA in Triple-A Pawtucket this season. In 55 major league appearances, he is 15-21 with a 4.20 ERA.

The 29-year-old native of Cuba was originally signed by Seattle as a free agent in 2011. He was sent to Boston four years later in a trade with Carson Smith for Wade Miley and Jonathan Aro.

The Red Sox will receive a yet-undetermined player or cash.

CHICAGO (AP) — White Sox reliever Danny Farquhar is talking to his doctors and family after surgery over the weekend to address a ruptured aneurysm that occurred during Friday night’s game against Houston.

Farquhar remains in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Rush University Medical Center. The team announced Monday the 31-year-old right-hander is expected to remain hospitalized for the next few weeks.

Farquhar passed out in the sixth inning Friday night after getting two outs against Houston. He was helped by team medical personnel and on-site EMTs, and he regained consciousness before he was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Additional testing revealed a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm. He had surgery Saturday to address the aneurysm, and the team reported his medical team felt he was “progressing well.”
