East Corinth, Vt. —
Born on Sept. 25, 1928, in Topsham, Vt., he was the son of Norman and Myrtle (Blood) McLam.
Alfred attended Topsham schools and was a 1946 graduate of Bradford Academy.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On Sept. 14, 1951, he married Eunice Dexter. They made their home in East Corinth and together they owned and operated McLam’s General Store for many years.
He also drove school bus for Piersons Transportation and served many years with the East Corinth Fire Department, including ten years as fire chief.
His past- times included growing a large vegetable garden, following the Boston Red Sox, snowshoeing, skiing and family outings.
Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by a son Michael McLam (March 29, 2013), a granddaughter Stacey McLam (June 6, 2016); two brothers Gordon McLam and Chester McLam, and a sister Inis Sartwell.
Besides his loving wife Eunice of 66 years; he leaves a son, Norman McLam and wife Tossie of Berlin, Vt.; two daughters, Marie McLam and husband, David Vahue of Slingerlands, N.Y. and Louise McLam of Manchester, N.H.; and daughter-in-law, Roxann McLam of Williamstown, Vt.; grandchildren, Jason Wheeler, Elisha McLam, Laura McLam, Janice McLam, Derek Hoyt, Leah Hoyt, Taylor Hoyt, and Julia Hoyt; a great-granddaughter, Josephine Silva; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at East Corinth Congregational Church in East Corinth. Rev Kelly Donahue and Rev Candace Ricker will officiate. There are no calling hours.
