Claremont — School Board member Alex Herzog has been hired as the new director of the Sugar River Valley Technical Center.

Herzog resigned his seat on Wednesday before being nominated by Superintendent Middleton McGoodwin and then approved by the School Board.

He will replace Joel Schneid, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Though Herzog’s name will appear on the March ballot for re-election, he cannot take the position if elected. He was one of seven candidates running for three, three-year seats. His seat will remain open until the March 13 election.

Herzog, 49, came to Claremont to work at the River Valley Community College in July 2016.

He currently is the associate vice president of student affairs at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord.

Herzog’s salary will be $86,898.
