Norwich —The Norwich Fire Department on Wednesday announced that it had installed a new dry hydrant on private property off Union Village Road.

Fire officials said that the nearest hydrant had been 4 miles away before the property owner, Alison Moskow, allowed the town to place a new fixture at 1285 Union Village Road.

The Vermont Rural Fire Protection Task Force funded about three-quarters of the project, local fire officials said.

The installation was a team effort involving private contractors, town workers and the task force.

Fire officials said Moskow had told them her fire insurance rates will decrease as a result, and they advised other property owners in the area to “check with their insurance carriers for possible discounts.”
