New York — When the Tampa Bay Lightning host NHL All-Star Weekend, they’ll have face of the franchise Steven Stamkos front and center.

Stamkos was voted by fans as captain of the Atlantic Division team for the All-Star 3-on-3 tournament that’ll take place later this month at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The league unveiled All-Star captains on Wednesday night and is expected to announce the full rosters in mid-January.

Stamkos has 49 points for first-place Tampa Bay and is signed for the next seven seasons.

Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin earned his ninth career All-Star nod as the fan-voted captain of the Metropolitan Division. Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban was voted captain for the Metropolitan Division and Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid captain of the Pacific Division.

Wednesday’s Games

Blackhawks 5, Rangers 2

New York — Patrick Sharp broke a tie early in the third period and Chicago beat New York.

Nick Schmaltz, Vinnie Hinostroza, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane also scored, and Jeff Glass made 23 saves.

Red Wings 2, Senators 1 (ot)

Detroit — Andreas Athanasiou scored 6 seconds into overtime to give Detroit a victory over Ottawa.

It was the second goal of the night for Athanasiou, who also had a penalty shot stopped in the third period. Dylan Larkin took the opening faceoff in overtime and, after the puck went forward a bit, both Athanasiou and Ottawa standout Erik Karlsson reached for it.

Athanasiou was able to control it and skated in behind Karlsson on a breakaway. He beat goalie Craig Anderson with a backhander high to the glove side.
