Quebec City, Canada — Marcia Louise Theriault passed away in Quebec City on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, after a short illness. She was 81 years old and the daughter of deceased George and Ray Theriault. She grew up in Hanover, N.H., and loved swimming and figure skating. Her career as an educator, translator and reviser in the U.S., France, New Brunswick and Québec spanned over 47 years after graduation in 1957 from Gould Academy at Hood College. Most notably, she worked for the Québec government’s National Assembly, and the Ministries of Communications and Revenue. She was known for her ability to work under extremely demanding circumstances. For instance, she was in charge of the stylistic revision of the Québec Budget Speech for nine years. In retirement, her skill and competence was unparalleled in preparing translators to sit for the OTTIAQ examinations or in mentoring freelance translators working in Québec. She loved music, poetry and making her numerous friends and acquaintances laugh. The Quebec Art Company held a special place in her heart. She will be forever remembered by her brother George (Celia), her daughter Michèle (Christian) and her son Alain (Patricia). “I hold your hand in mine.”
A celebration of her life will be held in Quebec City in January and she will be interred at the Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover at a later date. Memorial messages may be sent to singersksalways@gmail.com to be transmitted to the family. Donations in her memory may be sent to Lung Cancer Prevention Programs in either country.
