Sunapee — One of the cottages at Georges Mills Cottages was destroyed by fire on Thursday afternoon, proprietor Spec Bowers said.

Fire departments from several towns responded and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby cottages on the property, which sits off Route 11 in Georges Mills.

The fire likely started from a space heater, which Bowers said he put in a crawl space to thaw a frozen pipe.

“I have done it dozens of times (without a problem),” Bowers said.

He said he plans to rebuild the Ladyslipper, which slept four people, according to the business’s website.
