Waterbury, Vt. — Hannah Coates distributed her dominance quite evenly in the Woodstock Union High girls hockey team’s season opener on Saturday.

Coates, a junior, scored twice in each period to finish with a career-high six goals in the Wasps’ 10-3 win at Harwood.

“Her whole line played really well together, really the whole team,” said Woodstock assistant coach Kelley Ruch. “(Harwood) is a rebuilding team and we only led 3-1 after the first period, which I think kind of lit a fire under us. We were up 7-2 (at second intermission).”

Coates added two assists, while Anna Hepler had two goals and three assists and Lauren Forgione — the team’s lone senior and captain — had a goal and three assists.

Faye Stevens added a goal and an assist for the Wasps, while goalie Bridgit Black made 11 stops.

Woodstock plays its home opener Wednesday against Northfield.

Kimball Union 5, Tilton 0

Meriden — Mia Brown netted a hat trick as the Wildcats (2-1-1) won their second game in two days. Molly Flanagan and Colleen Donoghue added goals for the Cats, while Mikah Baptise had two assists.

Olivia Larose and Rose Sperry notched single assists for KUA, which visits Dexter Southfield in Massachusetts on Friday.

Boys Hockey

KUA 5, Tilton 4

Tilton, n.h. — Jordan Harris’ goal with 10 seconds to play lifted the Wildcats (6-1-0) past the Rams.

Thomas Samuelsen, Andranik Armstrong, Alro Merritt and Matt Egan also scored for KUA. After Tilton came back from a 4-2 deficit, Samuelsen and Armstrong set up Harris’ top-shelf winner.

Girls Basketball

Hartford 33, Randolph 29

White River Junction — The Hurricanes eked out a low-scoring win over the Galloping Ghosts in their season opener.

Morgan White led all scorers with 10 points and Megan Bushway scored nine for Hartford, which visits Lake Region on Friday.

Boys Basketball

Lake Region 52, Hartford 38

Orleans, Vt. — The Hurricanes fell to the Rangers in their season opener.

Hartford led 13-9 after one quarter, but Lake Region seized a 25-20 lead at halftime before outscoring the Canes 17-3 in the third to pull away. Hartford faces Williamstown in the first round of the U-32 tournament on Wednesday.

Lyndonville, Vt. — Senior Taylor Grande scored a career-high 27 points and sophomore Patrick Coffey added 25 to lead the Chargers over the Hornets.

Dana Bean added 16 points and nine rebounds for Colby-Sawyer (5-2; 3-0 North Atlantic Conference).

Women’s Basketball

Maine 64, Dartmouth 51

Hanover — The Big Green fell to 6-2 in a loss to the Black Bears (6-4).

Senior Kate Letkewicz led Dartmouth with 15 points and Cy Lippold and Emily Slagle combined for 22 points. The Black Bears anwered with four players in double figures and scored 20 points off of turnovers.

Colby-Sawyer 62 Lyndon St. 53

Lyndonville, Vt. — The Chargers wrapped up the first semester at 5-2 overall and 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference play.

Sophomore Tianna Sugars led five Colby-Sawyer players in double figures with 15 points, adding nine rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Men’s Hockey

Bentley 5, Dartmouth 1

Hanover — Five different Falcons lit the lamp as Bentley (7-7-3) controlled a nonleague win over the Big Green (2-7-1) at Thompson Arena.

The visitors used a three-goal second period to gain distance after taking a 1-0 lead on Tanner Jago’s first-period score. Kyle Schmidt, Drew Callin, Jake Kauppila and Luke Santerno provided Bentley’s other goals.

Tim Shoup broke the shutout for Dartmouth.

Men’s Squash

Dartmouth 9, Williams 0

Williamstown, Mass. — The No. 10 Big Green dominated No. 20 Williams on the road.

Freshmen Toby Harding and Reg Anderson and sophomore Sean Oen all won their respective matches, 3-0. Senior Jack Harvey struggled in the first game, falling 12-10, before posting a 3-1 win.

Women’s Squash

Dartmouth 6, Williams 3

Williamstown, Mass. — The No. 10 Big Green improved to 3-1.

Rebecca Brownell, Ellie Gozigian and Janel Gaub all dropped their first games before Gaube and Gozigian regrouped for wins.

Track and Field

Women Win at Home

Hanover — Cha’Mia Rothwell swept the 60-meter dash and hurdles as Dartmouth beat UNH, Maine and UVM in its season opener at Leverone Field House.

Rothwell finished with 28 of the Big Green’s 172 points, adding eight with a runner-up in the long jump. Katie Laskowski and Kayla Gilding were 1-2 in the 400 run. Abby Livingston and Annalisa Corwe did the same in the mile.

Dartmouth’s men took second behind UNH by just six points, 157-151.
Donovan Spearman led the way with wins in the 60 and 200 dashes. The Big Green also swept the top two spots in the 400 and 500 runs.
