Newport — Selena Coronis and Alexis Hurd scored 13 points apiece as the Newport High girls basketball team dominated Hillsboro Deering, 76-30, on Thursday in its home opener.

Alyssa Burr added 11 points for the Tigers, who saw 12 players enter the scoring column.

“We played a lot of swing players, and we played a lot of freshmen,” Newport coach Ross Dole said. “It was a total team effort. Couldn’t be happier.”

Newport (1-1), which lost to Conant last Friday in its season opener on a last-second basket, led 39-14 at the half. The Tigers greet Windsor on Tuesday.

Big Green Selects Captains

Hanover — Dartmouth head coach Brendan Callahan announced the Big Green’s captains for the 2018 season.

Senior Jack Korzelius will serve as captain, while classmate Richie Loftus will be assistant captain.

Korzelius, a second team All-Ivy selection last season, played in all 13 of the team’s games as a junior. He finished third on the team in goals.

Loftus was one of two players to appear in and start all 13 games last season. The Academic All-Ivy selection was tied for first with 21 goals and was first in assists (14), points (35) and man-up goals (4), with all four of those categories being career highs.

After two home scrimmages, Dartmouth will officially open the season on Feb. 17 against Canisius at home.

Big Green Senior Named All-American Again

Kansas City, Mo. — Dartmouth senior defender Wyatt Omsberg was named to the United Soccer Coaches Men’s All-America second team on Thursday.

The Scarborough, Maine, native finished his final season with four goals and one assist, and aided the Big Green defense to hold opponents to only 12 goals allowed.

This is his second All-America honor, as he was named to the third team in 2016.
