Plymouth, Vt.
Michael K. Lynds, of Plymouth, has been charged with enabling consumption by a minor, causing death or serious injury, in the death of Stephen Titus, a 20-year-old Reading man who was killed in March 2017.
A State Police news release on Friday said Lynds is an owner of Snowmobile Vermont and that “Titus was under the influence of alcohol while operating his snowmobile after leaving his place of employment at Snowmobile Vermont in Plymouth.”
A message seeking comment from Lynds was not returned on Friday.
Titus’ parents have said their son was a group leader for Kilington Snowmobile Tours, which is part of Snowmobile Vermont, and has a Plymouth location run from Spike’s Place, a snowmobile shop along Route 100A that sells food and drink. The news release says the incident took place on Route 100A in Plymouth.
Titus, who had attended Woodstock High School, did not come home from work on March 18 after leading a tour. A search was started the next day, and his body was found three miles from his house on a groomed VAST trail. Authorities believe he failed to negotiate a sharp turn and collided with several trees.
As recently as September, State Police had said there was an “active investigation” into his death.
Lynds is due to appear in Windsor Superior Court on Jan. 9.
