Hanover — Dartmouth College junior Cy Lippold led the way with 16 points, a women’s basketball team-high, as the Big Green topped previously undefeated Boston College, 68-37, at Leede Arena on Sunday afternoon, their first win ever over the Eagles.

Five total players scored in double digits against the Eagles, who came into the game with a 9-0 series lead.

“Every day is a new challenge, that’s what we talked about before the game,” said head coach Belle Koclanes. “We had Boston College, an ACC team, in front of us today and we wanted to do the best we could, and get out there and earn a victory.”

Boston College traded points with the home team for about three minutes before Dartmouth went on an 8-0 run with 4 minutes and 52 seconds left in the first quarter. Emily Slagle started the run with a jumper and the Big Green defense grabbed a rebound off a missed shot by Eagles’ Andie Anastos, setting up senior Kate Letkewicz for the three-pointer 10 seconds later.

Dartmouth continued to pull away in the first period, but turnovers and missed shots held it back, ending the quarter with a 16-10 lead. The Big Green jumped out into a nine-point lead with less than seven minutes in the half and maintained that lead into halftime.

Isalys Quiñones entered the second half with a quick layup at the 9:51 mark as the Big Green began to pull away. Dartmouth led by 21 points at the end of the third quarter, its largest lead of the game.

Eagles freshman Milan Bolden-Morris scored six different times in the fourth quarter, including two from beyond the arc, to put BC within striking distance. The Eagles were only down by seven with 2:34 left in the game. A pair of free throws from Lippold extended the lead back to nine points. BC took four more shots before the buzzer sounded.

“The fourth quarter was a tough one for us, Milan (Bolden-Morris) came out and hit some threes, where we had done a pretty good job on her offensively at that point, so a lot of really great lessons learned from Boston College as well,” Koclanes said.

Freshman guard Elle Louie saw her first minutes against the Eagles and scored her first points as well, hitting a deep three in the third minute of the fourth quarter.

The Big Green were 9-of-12 from the line, while BC shot 6-of-11. Dartmouth shot .490 from the floor (25-of-51), and averaged .529 from three point land (9-of-17).

Letkewicz and Lippold were both perfect from the free throw line. It was also Lippold’s second game of the season as the Big Green’s leading scorer.

Dartmouth will return to action on Friday, Nov. 24, hosting Rhode Island at Leede Arena at 4 p.m.

Harvard scored early on in the second half to cut Dartmouth’s lead to 16-8. But Bienstock’s second try, off of an interception, turned the momentum back around behind the Big Green. Julien Johnson, Bienstock and Oliver Engelhart all added tries minutes later, surging the Dartmouth lead to 40-8.
