Nashua, n.h. — Hanover High junior Leila Trummel finished in 25th place at the NHIAA Cross Country Meet of Champions at Nashua South High on Saturday, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 44 seconds to advance to next Saturday’s New England Championship in Belfast, Maine, as an individual. It was her third time qualifying in as many years.

Trummel led the Marauder girls to a 13th-place finish out of 18 competing schools. Senior Elsa Nordstrom finished in 59th place (19:47.3), sophomore Christine Aman placed 86th (20:27.6) and junior Emily Bregou took 99th (21:01.3). Exeter senior Jacqueline Gaughan won the race in 16:51.2, 14 seconds ahead of second-place Julia Robitaille (17:05.6) from Manchester West.

Senior distance runner Morgan Baughman led the eighth-place Hanover boys by finishing in 31st (16:24.8). Senior Simon Herron placed 48th (16:38.7), junior Jack Lynch took 52nd (16:40.2) and sophomore Daniel Bandler finished in 66th (16:51.1).

Nashua North’s David Vorbach and Max Ireland took first (15:30.4) and second (15:37.4) in the boys race, respectively.

Meriden — Ben Tardiff scored in the 80th minute to lift the Wildcats to their 11th win of the season.

KUA goalkeeper Kosta Maniatis made six saves, including a big denial in the final minute of the first half to keep Andover off the scoreboard.

Wildcats head coach Mike Doherty pointed to his defense for playing well and limiting Andover’s opportunities.

KUA (11-2-1) travels to Phillip Exeter on Wednesday.

Meriden — Holderness scored back-to-back goals in the second half and held on to hand Kimball Union its sixth loss of the season.

The Wildcats scored two goals in the first five minutes and took a 2-1 lead into halftime, with first-half goals from Molly Flanagan and Lexi Bartlett. Lily Braun and Maddie Gesner had assists in the half.

KUA (8-6-1) travels to Phillip Exeter Academy on Wednesday.
