Londonderry, n.h. — Hanover’s Sam Murray nipped Oyster River’s Amani Harvey at the finish line by less than two-tenths of a second to win the New Hampshire Division II middle school cross country state meet on Saturday at Londonderry High School.

Murray and Harvey went neck-and-neck over the 2-mile course before Murray crossed the line in 11 minutes, 11.37 seconds to Harvey’s time of 11:11.51. The victory highlighted a 10th-place team finish for Hanover, while the girls took fourth as a squad.

Lauren Eiler placed third among the girls with a time of 13:11.01 in a race won by Amherst’s Chloe Trudel in 12:52.42. Hanover picked up points from Sarah Glueck (15th), Meg Frost (29th), Wyethe Murray (45th), Mae Candon (50th), Charlotte Tagupa (51st) and Joy Garner (93rd).

Cian Riordan (43rd), Adam Gilbert-Diamond (51st), Becket Sobel (63rd), Luke Holmes (89th) and Jake Toulmin (96th) competed for the Hanover boys.

Up, Down, Around 5K

Lebanon — The Lebanon Outing Club is set to host its Up, Down and Around 5K trail race to cap the running season on Saturday.

The race takes advantage of the various types of terrain the Storrs Hill Ski Area has to offer.

Billed as part run, part hike and part natural obstacle course, runners will challenge their trail skills and get a taste of what’s to come when the Winter Wild uphill running series come to the hill later this winter.

The race starts at 10 a.m. Online registration is available through www.ultrasignup.com at a cost of $15 for youths and $20 for adults.

Okemo Valley Ace For Lebanon’s Noonan

Ludlow, Vt. — Lebanon’s Mike Noonan nailed a hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole at Okemo Valley Country Club on Sept. 6.

Noonan is the first golfer to ace the hole this season. He stuck the shot with a 7 iron from 159 yards, an accomplishment witnessed by playing partners M.C. Malbeouf, Scott Heald and Andrew Shaw.

Noonan’s name will be engraved on a plaque in the OKCC clubhouse marking the feat.

Figure Skating Exhibition

Hanover — The Dartmouth College figure skating club will kick off the winter season by hosting an exhibition show on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Arena.

The show, which runs from 4:30-6 p.m., will give Dartmouth skaters their first preparations for the upcoming competitive season.

The show is free of charge, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Vets’ Sled Hockey Game

West Lebanon — Veterans from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business will take on the Ice Vets team from the VA hospital in White River Junction in a sled hockey game on Nov. 9 at 7:15 p.m. at Campion Rink.

While admission is free, donations will be accepted to go toward the purchase of sled hockey equipment for Upper Valley veterans. There will be an opportunity to meet with the players and volunteers after the game.

Small Games Camp

White River Junction — The Hartford Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up again with Hartford High ice hockey coaches Todd Bebeau and Bill Goldsworthy to host a weeklong small games camp from Nov. 13-17 at Wendell A. Barwood Arena.

The camp is open to girls and boys in grades 9-12 and is geared toward preparing for the upcoming high school hockey season. Goldsworthy will oversee girls clinics from 2:45-3:45 p.m. each day, with Bebeau taking over with the boys from 4-5 p.m. Skaters will focus on creativity, excelling in small spaces, individual skills and team play.

The cost of the camp is $65 for Hartford residents and $80 for all others.

Lebanon Police Tourney

Lebanon — The Lebanon Police Department will host its second fundraising three-on-three basketball tournament on Nov. 26 at the Carter Community Building Association’s Witherell Recreation Center.

Three divisions will be available for boys and girls: grades 5-6, grades 7-8 and high school. Each team can have up to four players on its roster, and the cost is $50 per team. The registration deadline is Nov. 22.

The tournament is a fundraiser for the Child Advocacy Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The CAC and Lebanon police work together as advocates for children who are victims of physical and sexual abuse.

Referee Class in Hartford

White River Junction — Vermont Board 105 of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials will hold classes for new prospective referees at all high school levels next month.

Classes will be held at Hartford High School on Monday and Thursday evenings beginning on Oct. 30. The classes are open to both Vermont and New Hampshire residents. There will be a cost involved for class materials and the post-session exam.

Surge, Nashua Scoreless

Nashua, n.h. — The Lightning Soccer Club’s U10 Surge girls hit the road for league match over the weekend, playing host Nashua to a 0-0 tie.

The Surge split goaltending responsibilities between Katharine Moseley, Joanna Bujarski and Adeline Tullar, who combined on the shutout.

Malia Pratt anchored the defense, stopping Nashua incursions and frequently turning the Surge on the counterattack.

Ainsley Smith was denied on a free chance in the first half, while Reece Kenney struck a goalpost in the second half for the Surge’s closest calls. LSC hosts John Stark United SC this weekend.

Comets Soaring

Winchester, Mass. — The LSC U11 Comets stretched their boys soccer ongoing winning streak to six matches with a 6-0 blanking of SFC New England White over the weekend.

Will Knowles scored in the first half to get the Comets going, and the visitors exploded for five more goals in the second half. Thatcher Bacon and Nate Solberg both struck for two scores, while Thomas Bugg provided a goal.

The Comets return to their Kimball Union Academy home ground on Sunday for a date with NEFC Elite.
