Springfield, Vt. — Sophomore Angelina Bigwood tallied two goals to lead the Windsor High field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at Springfield on Thursday night.

Both goals came in the second half, one assisted by Hannah Wood and other by Alyssa Slocum. Bigwood now has 17 goals on the season. Haley Wood, daughter of current Yellowjackets coach Jody Wood, holds the Windsor single-season record with 22 goals.

Windsor had a 6-3 edge in penalty corners and a 7-2 advantage in shots. Madi Leduc and Glenna Ricard split time in goal for the Jacks, each making one save. Slocum and Jenna Hood each made defensive saves.

“It was a very aggressive game,” Jody Wood said. “I thought my team kept their heads in it and kept pushing through. They played for each other and stayed focused.”

The Yellowjackets’ victory spoiled Springfield’s senior night. Bigwood is enjoying her first season at Windsor after helping the Cosmos win the Vermont Division II state championship as a freshman in 2016.

Windsor (8-3) closes the regular season at Otter Valley on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Keene, n.h. — The Huskies dropped the Tigers in the opening round of the New Hampshire Division III playoffs at Keene State College. Newport finishes with a 5-10 record.

Boys Soccer

Woodstock 3, Mill River 0

Woodstock — The Wasps enjoyed senior night with a shutout victory over the Minutemen to close the regular season.

Emilio Montano scored for Woodstock in the eighth minute; Min Purvis assisted. Cullen McCarthy and Taylor Plourde added goals in the final 20 minutes. Steven Townley and Griffin Van Neil had assists. Keeper Steven Bianchi made one save.

“It was a good senior night; our six seniors played their last regular season home game and all got a chance to play and contribute,” Woodstock coach Tom Avellino said.

The win improves Woodstock to 8-4-2 and should clinch a home game to start the Vermont Division II playoffs next week.

Black River 3, MVCS 0

Ludlow, Vt. — Mid Vermont Christian (6-7) was shut out in its regular season finale by Black River, which led 1-0 at halftime.

Stan Nelson made seven saves for MVCS, which awaits its playoff seeding.

Girls Soccer

Plainfield, Vt. — The Mountaineers dropped their regular season finale to finish at 3-8-3.

Toni Turner scored in the second half with an assist to Amelia Mattrick. The Trojans scored all three of their goals after the break to get the victory.

Keeper Fiona Vaillancourt made four saves in the first half for the Mountaineers; teammate Morgan Freeman made eight saves after the break.

Kimball Union Boys Win

Saxtons River, Vt. — The KUA boys finished first and the girls were second in a Wednesday meet hosted by Vermont Academy.

Daniel Simek won the boys 5-kilometer race for the Wildcates. KUA also had Tongbun Pengkew in fifth, Cameron Plume in sixth and Charles Meyers in seventh. Eleanor Ashton led the KUA girls in third, Rachel Xia was fourth and Nancy Tran took seventh.

Dartmouth at ITA Regionals

New Haven, Conn. — The Big Green went a combined 11-0 in ITA Northeast Regional competition.

Roko Glasnovic won his first qualifying match, 6-2, 6-3 and then added a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory in the second. John Speicher won 7-5, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-2 in his qualifying matches.

Ciro Riccardi (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Peter Conklin (6-0, 6-7, 6-2) each won three-set matches in the first round of the main draw of singles play. Charlie Broom, David Horneffer and Dan Martin all earned byes.

Conklin and Max Fliegner partnered to win 8-5 in the doubles draw. Martin and Horneffer added an 8-4 victory.
