Rochester, n.h. — Phin Choukas shot a second round 74 to finish second in the NHIAA Division-II individual state championship at Rochester Country Club on Saturday.

Choukas had a 77 in Thursday’s first round, then followed that up with the lowest score in the field on day two. Choukas closed his second round with a birdie on the 18th hole for a two-day total of 151, 7-over par. Kingswood’s Sam Barton held off Choukas’ charge, shooting 73-75 to win the D-II title at a total of 148.

Hanover had five other players qualified to compete as individuals. Peter Lukovits shot 86-81 to finish in a tie for 11th at 167. David Lehmann (83-87) finished in 13th, Patrick Daley (88-84) was tied for 17th, Jack Meehan (83-93) was 21st and Gavin Koehler (88-91) finished 24th.

Stevens’ Daignault Seventh

Thornton, n.h. — Stevens’ Teagan Daignault finished in a tie for seventh as an individual in the NHIAA D-III state championship.

Daignault shot a 84-86 to finish with a 26-over par 170 over two rounds at Owl’s Nest Golf Club. Lebanon’s Kyle Pelletier shot matching rounds of 88 to finish 11th at 176. Derryfield’s Colin McCaigue and Gunnar Senatore tied for the top spot with matching rounds of 80 and 75 to finish at 155.

Newport’s Edwards Fourth

Canterbury, n.h. — Newport’s Gabe Edwards shot a 91 on day two of the NHIAA D-IV state championship to finish in a tie for fourth.

Edwards was tied for second after Thursday’s round one with a 79. Braxton Brown, of White Mountains, shot 81-79 to win the D-IV title with a total of 159, 15-over par.

Hartford 46Mount Mansfield 29

Jericho, Vt. — Tyler Hamilton had four touchdowns and ran for 158 yards to lead the Hurricanes (6-1) over the Cougars.

Nick Porter opened the scoring for the Canes with a 15-yard touchdown. Porter finished with 116 yards rushing on 14 carries. Hamilton followed with three straight scores, converting from 1, 15 and 30 yards out. Hartford fumbled on its first possession of the third quarter and the Cougars soon converted for a touchdown to get within three points, 32-29.

That was as close as the hosts got as Hartford answered with a 1-yard Kody Rhodes score and a 32-yard Hamilton burst to close the book. Hunter Perkins ran for 66 yards and had two successful 2-point runs for the Canes. Rhodes ran for 84 yards and had a pair of 2-point conversions, one on the ground and one on the receiving end. Zack Burek added a 2-point conversion.

The Hurricanes, who ran for 430 yards as a team, will close the regular season on Friday at Essex.

Newport 48, Mascoma 6

Newport — The Tigers built a comfortable 42-0 lead at halftime as they improved to 6-0 on the season in advance of Friday’s showdown with another unbeaten, Monadnock (6-0).

Sophomore John Thibault did it all on both sides of the ball, rushing for two touchdowns and returning two interceptions for scores. Cody Turgeon added a pair of rushing touchdowns. John Gervais ran for one score.

Older brother Peter Thibault played a strong game on the defensive line according to coach Rich Boone. Newport will visit Monadnock on Friday night in a battle of unbeaten D-III foes.

Windham 49, Lebanon 13

Windham, n.h. — The Raiders (1-5) fell to unbeaten Windham (6-0). Lebanon will host Plymouth on Friday night in its last home game of the season.

Boys Soccer

Sharon 8, Blue Mountain 0

Sharon — Olly Skeet-Browning had a goal and two assists to help Sharon (8-2-2) top the Bucks.

Sam Knoerlein added two goals. Erik Younce had a goal and an assist. Alex Olszewski and Ian Robertson each scored a goal. Sharon also benefitted from an own goal. Willy Barnes added two assists, and Tom Bissaillon and Josh Amodeo had one assist each.

Woodstock 3, Green Mtn. 0

Woodstock — Cullen McCarthy had two goals and an assist to pace the Wasps (6-4-2).

Taylor Plourde also scored. Will Crompton and Griffin Van Neil each had an assist. Keeper Steven Bianchi made two saves for the shutout. Woodstock led, 1-0, at halftime.

South Royalton 4Whitcomb-Rochester 0

South Royalton — Freshman Wyatt Slater scored twice as South Royalton (9-0-2) remained undefeated.

Jacob Barry, also a freshman, and Alvaro Sanabrio added single goals for the Royals, while Zeb Perrault, Eric Taylor and Jack Simack had one assist each.

Sam Fisk made 5 saves for South Roylaton, which visits Chelsea on Tuesday.

Kimball Union 2, Proctor 0

Meriden — Ben Tardiff and Noah Spaulding each scored for the unbeaten Wildcats (8-0).

Seth Stadheim picked up an assist. Keeper Nkosi Dube made five saves for the shutout. KUA visits Northfield Mount Hermon on Wednesday.

Girls Soccer

Hanover 1, Oyster River 0

Durham, n.h. — Cate Wagner’s header 10 minutes into the second half held up for the Marauders (10-2-2).

The game-winner was set up by a Pepper Joseph corner kick. Keeper Bella Bardales (two saves) made a diving stop with 15 minutes left to play to help preserve the lead.

The Marauders host Plymouth on Wednesday.

South Royalton 2Whitcomb-Rochester 0

South Royalton — The Royals scored a pair of goals in the second half to beat the Mountaineers.

Emma Gillette scored in the 55th minute with an assist to Kylie Hebard. Hebard then converted 10 minutes later off a feed from Hannah White. Keeper Lilly White had 10 saves.

South Royalton (4-7-1) visits Twinfield on Monday. Keepers Fiona Vaillancourt and Morgan Freeman combined for nine saves in net for the Mountaineers (3-7-2), who play at Sharon on Tuesday.

Green Mountain 5, Windsor 0

Windsor — The Yellowjackets (6-6) were shut out on their home field by the Chieftains.

Keeper Adi Prior made 14 saves for Windsor, which visits Twin Valley on Wednesday.

Cross Country

Oxbow Runs At Harwood Invitational

Moretown, Vt. — Isabella Giesing finished fourth in the girls 5-kilometer race at the Harwood Invitational.

Giesing clocked in with a time of 20:54. Teammate Tyrus Rosten finished 15th in 23:43. Rice’s Konstanze Wendeln won with a time of 20:08.

Keelan Durham led the Oxbow boys in 23rd (20:44) followed by William Douglas in 25th (20:53). Middlebury’s Samuel Hodges won with a time of 17:24.
