Epping, n.h. — Junior forward Carson Garland scored two goals, including the game-winner with just four minutes remaining in the second half, as the Sunapee High boys soccer team came back from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 victory over Epping on Tuesday afternoon.

“It was a good come-from-behind win and we are thankful that we scored when we did,” said Sunapee head coach Jack Iacopino in an email. “We did not want to go into overtime.”

Epping opened the game with two goals in the first 17 minutes, putting the Lakers in an early hole. Garland and Michael Mullen tied things up before halftime. Mullen later assisted on Garland’s 13th goal of the year to lift Sunapee to 9-4. Will Palin made four saves.

Garland has scored in each of his last five games. The Lakers, winners of four of their last five, travel to Newmarket on Friday. Sunapee fell to the Mules last week, 4-2.

South Royalton 4Craftsbury 3 (ot)

South Royalton — Alvaro Sanabrio scored the game-winner, his third goal of the game, with five minutes remaining in overtime to keep the Royals undefeated through their first nine games.

Sanabrio opened the scoring one minute into the match, but Craftsbury answered with three goals of their own to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. South Royalton recovered in the second half, tying the game at 3-3 before Sanabrio took a through ball from Zeb Perreault in overtime for his 13th goal of the season.

Jacob Barry also scored for the Royals. Perreault and Jacob Hewitt each finished with two assists. Sam Fisk made five saves. South Royalton (7-0-2) hosts Chelsea on Thursday.

Hartford 3, Brattleboro 1

White River Junction — Alex Valley finished with six saves, including several big ones in the second half, to keep Hartford ahead.

“(Valley) made a couple of spectacular saves,” Hartford head coach Kevin Guilbault said.

Pat McGlone broke the scoreless tie in the first half and assisted on Mac Sunde’s second goal of the year in the second half. Alex St. Martin added the insurance goal with three minutes remaining, assisted by his brother, Andrew.

Hartford (5-4-2) hosts Woodstock on Friday at Hartford High School for senior night.

Mid Vermont Christian 1 Chelsea 0

Quechee — Josh King’s third goal of the year broke the scoreless tie midway through the second half.

“We pulled out a win,” Eagles head coach Zach Bryan said. “It wasn’t our best showing.”

Mid Vermont has won three out of its last four games. Stan Nelson made five saves. The Eagles (5-6) travel to Craftsbury on Thursday.

Stevens 5, Mascenic 0

Claremont — Drew Grenier scored three goals and had an assist as the Cardinals improved to 11-3.

“I was excited and nervous about this game,” said Stevens head coach Jason Stone in an email. “They have had some really close games with some of the top teams. But we responded today.”

Mitchell Paquette provided two assists, Josh Thurber and Parker Moote each scored once and Colin Lewis finished the game with a helper. Tanner Durkee and Ian Fitzpatrick made a combined nine saves for the shutout.

Whitcomb-Rochester 5 Twinfield 0

Bethel — Whitchester (6-5-0) piled four second-half goals into the Trojans’ net to pull away for the victory.

Max Stearns got the Mountaineers going on either side of the interval, nailing a 22nd-minute penalty kick and adding a second goal in the 50th minute on a pass from his brother, Carter. Gabriel Feeney, Allister Wigglesworth and Colby Washburn added markers in the final five minutes, and Washburn contributed an assist as well. Levi West posted the four-save shutout for Whitchester.

Woodstock 6, Otter Valley 1

Woodstock — Emilio Montano and Steven Townley each scored twice as the Wasps (5-3-2) won their third straight.

Montano opened the scoring in the third minute, assisted by Mason Harkins. Will Crompton assisted on Townley’s first goal of the game in the 16th minute, and Montano scored again one minute later to build a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Townley scored again in the 48th minute, assisted by Cullen McCarthy. Kyle Weirether added to it in the 62nd minute and Parker Kuhnert scored his first varsity goal in the 72nd minute. Townley also had an asssist.

Littleton 4, Woodsville 0

Woodsville — The Crusaders maintained a top-four spot in the NHIAA Division IV standings by blanking the Engineers (7-6-0) at Community Field.

“They’re pretty good, and we weren’t,” Woodsville coach Mike Ackerman said. “We were flat most of the day. We didn’t go to the ball the way we should. We couldn’t finish.”

Woodsville did get a good game from goalkeeper Isaac Frost, who finished with nine saves.

Coe-Brown 1, Lebanon 0

Lebanon — Coe-Brown’s Ryan Whitcher got behind the Lebanon defense and scored in the 62nd minute to hand Lebanon its fourth loss of the season. The Raiders (8-4-1) travel to Manchester West on Friday.

Twin Valley 7, Windsor 1

Windsor — Elijah Collier scored Windsor’s lone goal in the second half as the Yellowjackets dropped to 5-7. Eli Milligan made 11 saves. Windsor travels to Rivendell on Tuesday.

Northfield-Williamstown 4, Thetford 0

Thetford — The Panthers allowed three goals in the second half and fell to 4-6-1. “They were much better than we were in every facet of the game,” Thetford head coach Mark Weigel said.

Thetford travels to Lake Region on Monday.

Hopkinton 9, Newport 0

Newport — The Tigers dropped to 0-12-0 with the loss to the defending NHIAA Division III champions. Newport visits Hillsboro-Deering on Monday.

Hazen 4, Oxbow 2

Bradford, Vt. — The Olympians dropped to 1-10-0 in their home finale. Oxbow finishes the season with three on the road, starting with Thursday’s trip to neighboring Rivendell.

Girls Soccer

Rivendell 3, Woodstock 1

Orford — Rivendell’s Mikayla DeBois scored two goals and provided an assist as the Raptors improved to 11-1.

The game was scoreless until Woodstock’s Olivia Marsicovetere broke through, assisted by Gina Sorrentino, just after halftime. Rivendell answered with three goals of their own, two from leading scorer DeBois (Nos. 17 and 18 on the year) and another from Mikayla Stever (her 17th). Riley Thomson finished the game with an assist. The Raptors’ Cora Day made 17 saves in goal, while Lydia Howe stopped 12 shots for Woodstock.

Seniors DeBois, Thomson and Bailey Ordway were honored before the game for senior night. Rivendell head coach Tim Goodwin praised Ordway’s defensive play.

The Raptors travel to Woodstock on Monday. The Wasps (3-6) host Fair Haven on Thursday.

Hartford 4, Fair Haven 1

White River Junction — The Hurricanes came to play under the lights at Hartford High, scoring three times in the first half.

Abbie Koff set up a pair of Ileana Sirois goals and scored one of her own to stake the Canes (6-4-1) to a 3-0 halftime cushion. Carol North’s unassisted strike closed Hartford’s scoring account, and Morgan White included several highlight-quality stops as part of an eight-save night in goal.

Craftsbury 3, South Royalton 2

South Royalton — The Royals (2-7-1) bounced back after allowing two goals in the opening minutes of the match, but they ran out of comebacks in the second half.

Emily Smith and Lizzy Brown struck for the Chargers for a quick 2-0 lead. Hannah White and Emma Gillette responded before halftime for the Royals, only to have Brown hit for her second of the afternoon five minutes into the second half. Junior co-captain Kylie Hebard assisted on both SoRo goals.

Lilly Hudson finished with 11 saves for the Royals, who host Twinfield on Thursday.

Sunapee 4, Epping 1

Epping, n.h. — Sunapee (13-0) scored four goals in the first half and held on late to stay undefeated.

Maddie Austin finished with two goals, her 33rd and 34th of the season, and an assist. Hannah Cooney had a goal and one assist. Abby Pollari scored once, and Ellie Frederick had a helper.

Whitcomb-Rochester 3 Twinfield 0

Bethel — Grace LaFromboise, Toni Turner and Amelia Mattrick each netted goals as the Mountaineers won their third game of the year.

Mattrick and Hayley Mears finished the contest with one assist each. Morgan Freeman and Fiona Vaillancourt combined for 11 saves.

Whitchester (3-6-2) travels to South Royalton (2-6-1) on Saturday.

Littleton 3, Woodsville 2

Woodsville — The Crusaders struck for a pair of quick goals to open the second half, added a third later and held on to end the Engineers’ 10-game winning streak.

Hannah Brown and Maddy Dumont scored within the first 6½ minutes after halftime to erase a 1-0 deficit. Gabby Levitt made it 3-1 for the visitors in the final 20 minutes, and Littleton (10-4-1) milked the cushion even after Olivia Sarkis drew Woodsville (10-3-0) within a goal with 7:39 left.

“We held them and played a pretty decent first half, but we went out in the second half and didn’t play,” Woodsville coach Ann Loud said. “We weren’t playing our soccer until the last 10 minutes.”

Suzy Bazzell knocked home a Sarah Britton pass for a first-half Woodsville goal, while Molly Clough assisted on Sarkis’ strike. Woodsville hosts Groveton on Thursday at Community Field.

Chelsea 2, Sharon 0

Chelsea, Vt. — The Phoenix got hustle games from back Tommy Hoyt, midfielder Isabella Amodeo and striker Novah Conway, but the Red Devils left with the win.

“We had a couple of slip-ups in the middle of the field that did us in,” Sharon coach Heidi Thedwall said. “We just didn’t come out as motivated as they did today.”

Rory Livingston made 13 saves in the TSA net.

Bow 2, Hanover 0

Hanover — The Marauders sent 14 shots on goal but couldn’t find the back of the net as they fell to 8-2-2, their second loss to Bow this season. “It just would not go in the net,” Hanover head coach Doug Kennedy said. “I hope we get another shot at them.”

Bella Bardales made three saves.

Field Hockey

Hartford 5Mount Anthony 0

White River Junction — Kennedy Mullen had two goals as Hartford exploded with five second-half goals to improve to 6-4-1.

Morgan Pero, Emily Ricker and Greer McCarty also scored for the Hurricanes. McCarty and Ricker finished the game with assists.

Hanover 4Merrimack Valley 0

Hanover — Diana Schwarz scored twice and Lois Schwarz added a goal and an assist for the Marauders (9-2-1) .

Natalie Smith also scored for Hanover. Hannah Curtis and Macy Curtis each finished with an assist. Marauders head coach Jean Essex pointed to Emma Marks and Ella Chapman for their exceptional defensive play. Ella Edmonds and Emma Taylor split time in goal.

The Marauders honored seniors Smith, Hannah Curtis, Tessa Cahoon, Daphnie Friedman, Isabelle Sangha and Madeline Wallace before the game for senior day.

Plymouth 7, Lebanon 5

Plymouth, n.h. — Leah Mayes and Molly Pelletier each scored twice as the Raiders dropped to 3-10-1.

“Plymouth was definitely more aggressive. They got to the ball faster,” Lebanon head coach Amanda Pelletier said. “It was a pretty high-scoring field hockey game, back and forth the whole time.”

The game was tied, 3-3, at halftime. Emily Hunnewell finished with a goal and an assist. Katie Berthasavage had a helper. Hope Brown made 13 saves.

Cross Country

Woodstock, Windsor Place At Springfield Meet

North Springfield, Vt. — Woodstock’s Grace Vollers and Riley Shepherd won their respective races to lead the Wasps at Tuesday’s Marble Valley League meet at the North Springfield Dam.

Vollers won the girls race in 21 minutes, 27 seconds, the only Woodstock representative in the top 10. For Windsor, Morgan McKeen took second place (22:15), Belle Moulton placed eighth (24:52) and Olivia Rockwood took ninth (25:07).

The Wasps’ Shepherd claimed the boys division in 16:52. Woodstock’s Matthew Bassette placed second (17:20), and Justice Bassette took fourth (18:31). Windsor’s Justin Smith finished in third (18:15).

Volleyball

Sunapee 3, Hillsboro-Deering 0

Hillsboro, n.h. — The Lakers (7-6) improved their postseason prospects with a 25-19, 25-18, 26-24 sweep of the Hillcats (3-10).

Grace Clay and Lexi Miller were both perfect from the service line to set things up for the Lakers, with Clay delivering four aces. Emily Devore and Tess Palin also were big with the serve, each recording seven aces. Palin led the attack with six kills, while Clay and Jenna Levasseur each recorded five.

Women’s Soccer

Dartmouth 3, Holy Cross 2

Worcester, Mass. — Alyssa Neuberger broke a 1-1 tie in the final four minutes of the first half and Gia Parker added her second of the game late in regulation as the Big Green (6-7-0) conquered the Crusaders in a nonleague contest.

Parker gave Dartmouth an early lead only to have the hosts’ Carly Flahive respond barely two minutes later. Neuberger’s put the Big Green ahead for good with her 42nd-minute strike before setting up Parker’s 70th-minute goal to extend the lead. Allie Neumann threw the Crusaders a lifeline with five minutes left, but Holy Cross didn’t threaten the Dartmouth net again.

Women’s Rugby

Big Green, Bears Will Not Clash

Hanover — Saturday’s varsity rugby match between Dartmouth and visiting Brown will not be played as scheduled.

Dartmouth sports information director Rick Bender said Brown explained it did not have enough healthy players to compete and regards the match as a cancellation. Dartmouth, however, views the contest as a forfeit, Bender said.

The Big Green is 4-0 and the top-ranked Division I women’s varsity team in the country. Brown, 1-2 and ranked 10th, beat Princeton, 69-10, last week.
