Vershire, Vt. — William Arthur Cook, 79, passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at his home of natural causes. He was born Dec. 20, 1937, at the family farm in Norwich, Vt. He graduated from Hanover High School, class of 1957.

He served in the U.S. Army for three years, stationed in Germany, then returned to the Upper Valley, where he met and married Carol L. Stockwell of West Lebanon, N.H. on Nov. 28, 1964. They settled in Norwich, Vt., where they raised three children. They later divorced in 1989.

Bill was a carpenter for 40 years, until 2002, when he retired after over 30 years with Trumbull-Nelson Construction. He was always recognizable on the job and in the community by the silver metal hardhat he wore.

Bill loved his family, his friends, and his Country. He loved shooting and hunting, classic cars, animals and music. He enjoyed spending his final days living a simple life in his cabin with his cats and spending time with his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his children, Ellen (Cook) Lund, Jennifer Cook Bolay, and Thomas Cook; two grandsons, William Lund, and Ezekiel Lund; two sisters, Lois Hutchins and Irena Parhiala; his brother, David Cook; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Wilma (Stanley) Cook; his brothers, Henry, Samuel and Chester; and his nephew, William Guyer.

All who knew Bill are welcome to join the family for a Celebration of his life starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at the home of Paula Guyer, 417 Whippoorwill Rd, Thetford Center, Vt.
