The free, three-hour Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events training sessions will offer strategies, guidance and a plan for surviving an active shooter event, according to a news release today from the department.
The course, which is required of all state of New Hampshire civilian employees, is based on the concepts of “avoid, deny and defend,” according to the release. The department’s officers received instructor training with the help of a federal grant.
It was announced less than 10 days after an active-shooter event at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, in Lebanon, in which a 70-year-old woman was shot and killed in the intensive care unit. Her son was arrested in a car near the hospital and has been charged with first-degree murder.
The courses will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, and Friday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the auditorium of School Administrative Unit #88, which is located at 20 Seminary Hill in West Lebanon.
