At the larger halls, you can catch singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin on the 20th anniversary tour of her breakthrough album A Few Small Repairs, and the classical mastery of the Emerson String Quartet to the roots veteran David Bromberg and his band.
The choices at more intimate settings range from Anthony Kearns of public television’s The Irish Tenors to sharp-shooting singer-songwriter Susan Werner.
All this variety should soften the blow from missing out on the Judy Collins/Stephen Stills duet at Lebanon Opera House in late September, and of the Hopkins Center visits of the cabaret ensemble Pink Martini and trumpet master Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center band, all of which sold out quickly.
Here are some of the choicest sightings (and listening) in the parade:
Lebanon Opera House
A little less than half of LOH’s 800 seats remain available for the Shawn Colvin show on Nov. 11, according to Hanover-based concert promoter Buddy Kirschner. Admission is $47.50 to $62.50.
Meanwhile, LOH’s new executive director, Joe Clifford, is looking forward to the Young@Heart chorus’ Oct. 21 appearance, which starts at 4 in the afternoon, at ticket prices ranging from $39 to $79.
“I knew they would resonate with this community,” Clifford said, adding that the visitors are grateful for the late-afternoon start because “they would like to get back the same night.”
Several other concerts this season will start earlier in the evening, with a nod to those of us who need to get up early for work or school the next morning. Among the highlights:
Coig — This Celtic quartet, which wowed audiences at the New World Festival in Randolph with its Cape Breton Island rhythms last weekend, plays the LOH on Saturday night at 7:30. General admission, $12 to $22.
Joan Soriano — The Dominican blues singer-guitarist performs on Oct. 6 at 7:30. Admission $10 to $20.
The Wailers — The late Bob Marley’s reggae band, featuring original guitarists Junior Martin and Donald Kinsey, takes the stage on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. Admission $25 to $45.
Rusted Root — The Americana ensemble performs Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Admission $25 to $45.

Hopkins Center
Strings are the thing for much of the fall at the Hop, starting Wednesday night at 7 with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet playing a 25-minute composition that Pat Metheny wrote on commission specifically for acoustic guitar. Admission costs $17 to $40.
On Sept. 30, the Emerson String Quartet will take on British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage’s new work Shroud, between interpretations of works by Mozart and Beethoven. Admission $17 to $50.
And on Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. in Rollins Chapel, the Del Sol string quartet and the piano duo Zofo will provide what Lawrence describes as “a perfect introduction to all kinds of contemporary music. These are two young ensembles that have lots of fun when they play.” Tickets $17 to $25.

Chandler Music Hall
Almost as soon as he took the helm at the Chandler in April, new executive director Tom Ayres went straight to roots legend David Bromberg’s website and, he said this week, “picked up his tour information and realized he was going to be in Massachusetts and Maine in that time frame. I called his agent on a wild guess, and we worked it out.” Admission to the Oct. 5 show, at 7:30 p.m., costs $28 to $38.
Other highlights of the fall lineup at the Chandler follow:
The Persuasions, Sept. 30, 7 p.m. — Not to be confused with Elvis Costello’s band, the a cappella ensemble steps to the microphones after performances by Maple Jam and the Dartmouth Aires. Admission $32 in advance, $34 at the door.
Ray Vega’s Latin jazz quintet, Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m. — Admission $22 to $24.
The Gibson Brothers, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. — Bluegrass band, with opening act by The Vermont Bluegrass Pioneers. Admission $23 to $25.
Howard University Gospel Choir, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. — Admission $30 to $32.
“The Turning of the Year: A Celtic/Americana Holiday Celebration,” Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. — Collaboration among accordion master John Whelen, fiddler Katie McNally and Vermont-based roots band Low Lily.” Admission $10 to $22.

Pentangle Center for the Arts
Pete’s Posse, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. Pomfret native Tristan Henderson sings and plays multiple instruments for the roots trio, in a concert benefiting the Woodstock Ski Runners program for cross-country skiers. Admission $10 to $25.
Musical offerings at Town Hall Theatre also include a concert by the folk string band The Fretless, on Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. Admission $15.

Camerata New England
Thetford-based cellist Linda Galvan leads the chamber program around the Upper Valley, starting on Oct. 1 with a 2 p.m. concert at the North Universalist Chapel in Woodstock. She joins violinist Omar Chen and pianist Evelyn Zuckerman in performing works of Schumannn, Dvorak and Ferruccio Busoni — the latter of which, a 15-minute piece, that Galvan said none of the trio had heard of until they were looking for something different that would fit between the Schumann and the Dvorak.
The trio also will perform this program on Oct. 7 at Norwich Congregational Church.

Flying Goose Brew Pub & Grille
In a strong lineup of folk and roots performers in the fall series, Susan Werner stands out for her equal parts sly and erudite wit and versatile voice. Better still: She’s performing two nights in a row, at 8 on Nov. 29 and 30.
Maine-based singer-songwriter David Mallett leads off the series on Oct. 19. Other performers include veteran singer-guitarist David Wilcox on Nov. 2, folk multi-instrumentalist and singer Ari Heist on Nov. 9 and singer-guitarist Harvey Reed on Dec. 14.

Vermont Symphony Orchestra
Under the direction of Jaime Laredo, the VSO’s “Made in Vermont” tour hits the Chandler Music Hall in Randolph on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. (admission $10 to $25) and the Woodstock Town Hall Theatre on Sept. 21 at 7:30 ($10 to $30).
