Chicago — Jorge Polanco homered for the third time in two days, smacking one of the Minnesota Twins’ three long balls in a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.

Polanco led off the fourth inning with his sixth homer of the season after going deep in both ends of a doubleheader Monday.

Kennys Vargas and Eddie Rosario added home runs against rookie Lucas Giolito (0-1) in his White Sox debut. The Twins remained in playoff position with their fifth win in six games.

Giolito, who came to Chicago from the Washington Nationals in an offseason trade for Adam Eaton, allowed six hits and four runs, striking out four.

Yankees 13, Tigers 4

Detroit — Gary Sanchez hit two home runs — including a first-inning drive estimated at nearly 500 feet — and Masahiro Tanaka pitched seven tidy innings in his return from the disabled list to lead New York over Detroit.

Sanchez’s two-run shot in the first was estimated at 493 feet by Statcast. The Yankees led 2-0 after that and never looked back.

Tanaka (9-10) allowed three runs and six hits in his first appearance since Aug. 9. He’d been out with right shoulder inflammation.

Athletics 6, Orioles 4

Baltimore — Ryon Healy homered twice and had three RBIs, Jed Lowrie hit a two-run drive and Oakland beat sinking Baltimore.

The Athletics used homers by Lowrie and Healy to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and Healy connected in the fifth for a five-run cushion.

Manny Machado hit a two-run homer in the sixth for Baltimore and Jonathan Schoop singled in two runs in the eighth to make it 5-4, but Khris Davis blunted the comeback with his 34th home run in the ninth.

Rays 6, Blue Jays 5

St. Petersburg, Fla. — Lucas Duda and Corey Dickerson homered in the first two innings and Chris Archer struck out 10 for Tampa Bay in a victory over Toronto.

Jesus Colome got his major league-leading 37th save after giving up hits to Kendrys Morales and Steve Pearce that left the potential game-tying run on third base in the ninth.

Padres 12, Cardinals 4

St. Louis — Yangervis Solarte homered and drove in a career-high six runs, Austin Hedges also went deep and San Diego beat St. Louis.

Solarte hit his homer a projected 455 feet over the right-field bullpen in the eighth inning to cap his career night. The Padres had scored six runs over their previous four games combined.

Cubs 13, Reds 9

Cincinnati — Cubs star Kris Bryant exited after being hit in the left hand by a pitch, and lefty Anthony Rizzo wound up playing third base as Chicago beat Cincinnati for its seventh win in nine games.

The defending World Series champions moved a season-high 10 games over .500. This victory came with a late offensive surge, with the Cubs scoring nine runs in the last three innings.

Dodgers 8, Pirates 5

Pittsburgh — Chris Taylor had three of Los Angeles’ 10 hits as the offense picked up the pitching staff in a victory over Pittsburgh.

Taylor drove in three runs and Yasmani Grandal hit a two-run home run for the Dodgers.

Corey Seager drove in the winning run in the sixth, knocking in Adrian Gonzalez, who had led off the inning with a double. The hit was Gonzalez’s 2,000th of his career.

Diamondbacks 7, Mets 4

New York — J.D. Martinez hit an early three-run homer, Patrick Corbin pitched eight smooth innings to win his third straight stingy start and Arizona coasted past sinking New York.

Adam Rosales also homered and made a diving stop at third base to begin an inning-ending double play. Paul Goldschmidt doubled twice and drove in two runs as the Diamondbacks boosted their playoff position by winning at Citi Field for the second consecutive night.

Marlins 7, Phillies 4Marlins 12, Phillies 8

Philadelphia — Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run homer, Christian Yelich had a three-run shot and robbed Nick Williams of a two-run drive and Miami beat Philadelphia to complete a doublehedaer sweep.

Williams and Andres Blanco each hit quirky homers for the Phillies, Tommy Joseph also went deep and the teams combined for 14 homers in the two games.

Ichiro Suzuki’s pinch-hit three-run homer broke a tie in the seventh inning, Giancarlo Stanton added his major league-leading 46th homer and the Marlins won the opener.

Nationals 4, Astros 3

Houston — Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer, Howie Kendrick had a two-run triple and Washington beat Houston for the ninth straight time.

Washington’s winning streak over the Astros dates to 2012. The Nationals have won 13 of 14 against Houston since 2011.

Royals 3, Rockies 2

Kansas City, Mo. — Danny Duffy and four relievers combined on a two-hitter, helping Kansas City hold off Colorado.

Duffy took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and retired the first two batters before walking DJ LeMahieu and allowing a homer to Nolan Arenado. The Rockies star third baseman squared up a 1-1 pitch and hit it out for his 28th home run.

Braves 4, Mariners 0

Atlanta — Rookie Lucas Sims pitched three-hit ball over six innings and Atlanta scored on a crazy play that took three rundowns in a victory over SEattle.

Sims (2-3) won his second straight start after starting his big league career with three losses in a row. Seattle only got two runners as far as second base against the 23-year-old right-hander, a native of suburban Atlanta who won for the first time in front of the home folks.

Nick Markakis put the Braves ahead in the fourth, leading off with his eighth homer of the season against Marco Gonzalez (0-1), yet another replacement starter in Seattle’s injury-plagued rotation. Markakis added a run-scoring single in the fifth.

After committing four errors in the series opener, the Mariners botched two more plays defensively.

Third baseman Kyle Seager dropped a throw during a rundown in the fifth, allowing Ozzie Albies to race home. Seattle made five throws on the play, ending when first baseman Yonder Alonso cut across the diamond with the ball chasing one runner, then tossing to catcher Mike Zunino for a tag between second and third.
