Wolfeboro, n.h. — Two months after more than 80 dogs were removed from a New Hampshire mansion, Gov. Chris Sununu has revamped a committee that advises the state on animal welfare issues in hopes of strengthening laws to prevent future cruelty.

Christina Fay was charged in June with animal cruelty after authorities said they found 84 Great Danes living in filth and suffering from sores, infections and other health problems in her Wolfeboro home.

Sununu, a Republican, joined Humane Society officials at the Wolfeboro Police Department on Thursday to sign an executive order expanding the duties of the 13-year-old Commission on the Humane Treatment of Animals. He said he looks forward to working with the group to strengthen animal cruelty laws.

Fay’s trial is scheduled for October. She has pleaded not guilty.
