Dresden used victories of 12-2 over Hartford and 14-13 over Lake Region to claim a spot in the double-elimination tournament finals. North Country beat Dresden earlier in the tournament and came close to doing it a second time.
The Rivercats trailed in the June 21 finale, 12-7 in the top of the sixth, using a seven-run rally in their final at-bat to reverse the result. Staked to the lead, pitcher Cameron Bonner didn’t let it get away, retiring the last three outs for the win.
Ian Smith led the offense with five hits. Andrew Cahoon had a bases-clearing triple in the game, while Jared Litch, Zhiwen Liu, Andy Parks and Oliver Sperry added key hits to the offense.
The Hanover- and Norwich-based roster also included Christian Blix, Satch Bowie, Zander Doyle, Felix Kreiss, Sam Loescher and Freddie Mierke along with coaches Steve Smith, Gunnar Blix and Mike Cahoon. Both Dresden and North Country will take part in the state tournament, which begins on Saturday and continues through Monday in Manchester, Vt.
Lebanon Wins Invitational

Lebanon clicked all weekend in defeats of Stratham 11U, Seacoast, Dover, Newmarket and Barrington. The 12Us scored 62 runs, defended very well and gave up only 13 hits while striking out 41 on the mound. Bodie Benoit, Sawyer Weale, Dawson Bats, Sam Bates, Zach Gaudet and Dominik Petkus repeated produced quality at-bats, amassing four home runs and 31RBIs as a group. Ben Howland and Domineaq Taylor joined Petkus, Weale and the Bates boys on the hill, combining for a 1.02 earned-run average.
Lebanon is back in action as hosts of the New Hampshire Cal Ripken 12U 60-foot state tournament this coming week. The tourney begins on Saturday and runs through July 7, with games scheduled for both Smith Field in West Lebanon and Logan Field in Lebanon. The hosts open play against Newmarket on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Smith Field.

Hanover’s Sam Murray won two events and broke two records among boys ages 13-14. Murray chopped more than 19 seconds off the 1,600-meter mark with a winning time of 5 minutes 11.63 seconds and sliced another nine seconds off the 800 by winning in 2:23.08. Teammate Adam Gilbert-Diamond also won the 800 in 2:38.42 to top all boys ages 11-12.
Hanover’s Ella MacLean took the 200 dash among girls ages 13-14 in a photo finish, setting a meet record of 28.27 seconds. Daisy Onyango took the long jump for girls ages 11-12 at 7 feet, 6.5 inches, and Hanover’s 13-14 girls also won the 400 relay (57.90).
Claremont’s Christian Wiley was also a two-event record-setting state champ. Competing among boys ages 13-14, Wiley won the 400 dash (1:01.56) and long jump (16-4.75), setting new standards in both.
Lebanon’s Luke Engert came home a state champ among boys ages 9-10 in the 200 dash (32.48). Newport’s Maddox Lovely took home victories among 9- and 10-year-old girls by claiming the 400 dash (1:14.25) and 200 dash (32.70).

The event included five- and 10-kilometer courses, with both divisions heading out at 9:30 a.m. The course largely follows the Northern Rail Trail and the Class VI Mill Road, with dirt and hardpack the predominant surface.
A free one-mile fun run precedes the big event at 9 a.m. The cost of the 5K and 10K is $10 for ages 12 and under, $15 for ages 13-17 and $20 for ages 18 and older through Sunday; the fee increases $5 for all age groups after that through the day of the race.

The race is a benefit for the HCP in its efforts to help local families in a time of need. Runners can help by taking part in the race, which starts at 9 a.m. from the Hartland Recreation Center. The 10K costs $30, and the 5K is $20.

The event gives runners, walkers and hikers of all ages a chance to sample of the Ascutney Trails network while getting showered (as an option) in a variety of colored powders. The Rainbow Run is meant to be a fun event, open to all ages and fitness levels.

Hopla, who will visit on Friday, just completed his second season with the Pistons after past stints with Toronto, Washington and New York. A New Jersey native who now resides in Maine, Hopla has conducted basketball camps around the world and also works as a motivational speaker at schools assemblies and corporate events.
