He is survived by his son, Chris Miller; his daughter, Danielle (Miller) Higginbotham; son-in-law, Jacob Higginbotham; grandchildren, Brynnlee Miller and Soren Higginbotham; his former wife, JoAnn Simpson-Miller; nieces, Lesley (Miller) Flint, June McKenzie, Ann Creaser, Hope Shaver, Caroline Shepherd, and their families; and a nephew, Harry Shepard, Jr.
Allen proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957 during the Korean War as an engine crew chief for B47 bombers. Following the military, he worked at the Correctional Center in Windsor and Montpelier, Vt. for 23 years. While in employment, he worked in a variety of positions, including Director of Institutional Industries. In 1979 he received an award for Highest Productivity per man hour within institutional industries in the nation. Allen and his wife moved to Oklahoma in 1981. He worked for the Oklahoma State Industries (OSI) designing and creating prototype of office furniture, dormitory furniture, and various items for inmates to make to sell through the Corrections Department. Allen loved creating and redesigning machinery to improve productivity.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vt.
