Plainfield, N.H. — Following a long illness, Colleen Thelma Rollins Plummer, 85, of Amherst, Mass. and formerly of Plainfield, died peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at the Elaine Center in Hadley, Mass. with family by her side. Colleen was born in Bingham, Maine on June 21, 1931, daughter of Earland and Jessie Rollins. After graduating from Bingham High School, she attended Fisher Junior College in Boston, Mass. and went on to work at Mary Hitchcock hospital in Lebanon, N.H. where she also obtained her pilot’s license, flew small planes, and only once landed upside down. On Sept. 2, 1957, she married Stephen F. Plummer, Jr. and was happily married for 57 years. Colleen and Steve moved to Natick, Mass. in 1958 and lived and raised their four children there before moving to Amherst, Mass. in 2007. Colleen worked as an administrative assistant for many years at GZA, Inc. in Needham, Mass. and enjoyed that career and her colleagues there. Family and friends were dear to her and to Steve, and they enjoyed travels, throughout the U.S., to visit them. Colleen liked sewing, knitting, upholstering, and other home improvement activities, but ever a child of Maine, she loved being in the woods, fishing, hunting, or just out for a walk. She transferred a resourcefulness and mischievous spirit to her children and was loved for her kindness and patience in all things.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents and husband and is survived by her brother, Paul Rollins; and her four children: Stephanie Osman and husband, Eric of Amherst, Mass. and their daughter, Aliya; Mitchell Plummer and wife, Catherine of Idaho Falls, Idaho and their children, Sara and Megan; Karen Rennar and husband Hank of Houston, Texas; and Brian Plummer and wife, Wendy of Amherst, Mass. and their children Luke, Lindsey, and Anna.
A funeral will be held on Monday, May 8, at 11 a.m at the Plainfield Community Church in Plainfield, with the Rev. Suellen Leugers, officiating. A graveside burial will follow in the Plainfield Cemetery.
