Meriden — Owen Stadheim’s goal with less than 10 mnutes to play enabled the Lightning Soccer Club’s U15 Sonic boys soccer team to rally past the Boston Bolts, 3-2, over the weekend at Kimball Union Academy.

Blake Palmer struck first for LSC, giving the home team a 1-0 halftime advantage. The Bolts grabbed their first lead with two goals shortly after the start of the second half.

Tyler Martin tied the match for the Sonic, setting the stage for Stadheim’s late heroics.

Sparks Blank NH Select

Meriden — The LSC U-12 Sparks blanked GPS NH Select, 2-0, in a Sunday match at KUA’s Carver Field.

The Sparks succeeded despite playing the second half in a downpour. Dominant defender Grace Nostrant put LSC on the board with a goal, and Emma Powers converted a Brielle Fitzpatrick pass for the clincher.

The Sparks remained unbeaten with the victory.

GPS Stops LSC Bugs

Bedford, n.h. — The LSC U11 Bugs came up on the short end of 3-2 decision on Sunday at the GPS NH Soccer Complex.

GPS busted a 2-2 tie with a late game-winner. Birthday girl and wing Svia Russman had a strong game in a back-and-forth contest, as did center back and teammate Annabel Clark.

The Bugs return to KUA on Sunday to face the NEFC Breakers.

Chargers Charge United

Meriden — The LSC U15 Chargers got a jolt out of Sunday’s 4-0 blanking of Seacoast United Storm at Kimball Union Academy’s Pope Field.

Pepper Joseph led the way with two goals for LSC. Anya Jewell and Casey McVeagh notched the others in the victory.

U13 Fire Burns Valeo

Meriden — The LSC U13 Fire boys produced their first win of the spring and vaulted to fifth place in the 10-team New England Premiership with a 4-0 blanking of Valeo FC on KUA’s Pope Field on Sunday.

Hugh Clark netted the rebound of a Zane Schiffman header off the Valeo crossbar to get LSC on the bard late in the first half, with Rich Aman earning an assist on a free kick. Schiffman doubled the Fire’s lead on a Clark pass minutes later.

Goalkeeper Ty Nolon kept LSC in a 2-0 lead with two clutch saves early in the second half. Connor Hamlin tapped in a Tucker Champman cross and Jack Ross headed home an Aman corner kick to lock down the win.

Defenders Palmer Okai, Jack McGrath, Luke Clarner and Jack Gardner shared in the clean sheet with the play in front of Nolon.

Force Squeezes Out Win

Saugus, Mass. — The LSC U13 force battled its way to a 1-0 blanking of Aztec Soccer at Anna ParSunday.

Eric Tysinger provided the only goal the Force would require in the first half. LSC backed the goal with an energetic approach to second-half to grab the victory.

NEFC Douses Flames

Concord, Mass. — Although victims of a 9-2 loss to NEFC MN United at the Fenn School on Sunday, the LSC U11 Flames could take som solace from playing their hosts to a 2-2 second-half draw.

Kai Kurokawa latched onto a Cavan O’Brien feed to get the Flames on the board. Just before full time, LSC’s Paul Ashton forced a loose ball that teammate Noah Winchester converted for the Flames’ second goal.

Kyle Hines and Marcus Wortmann showed good effort on defense for the Flames in front of goalkeepers Norwood Davis and Logan Isham.

Legion Tourney at Carter

Lebanon — Guyer-Carignan American Legion Post 22 will stage its annual William “Bill” Broughton Scholarship Fund golf tournament at Carter Golf Club on May 20.

The 18-hole tournament pits five-member teams against each other in a best-ball scramble starting at noon (check-in: 11 a.m.) Benefits from the tournament go to the scholarship fund as well as the Post 22 American Legion baseball program that Broughton founded.

The cost is $125 per person, with a maximum of 16 teams. Hole sponsorships are also available for $75. A cookout will accompany the tournament until 6 p.m., and the night will continue with dancing until 9:30 p.m.

UVAC Starting Walking Program

White River Junction — With the help of a grant from the Osteoarthritis Action Alliance at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, the Upper Valley Aquatic Club will start its Walk With Ease program next month.

Walk With Ease consists of Monday, Wednesday and Friday sessions over the span of five weeks. Participants will have the support of a group setting while learing exercises geared toward easing arthritis symptoms. By the program’s conclusion, participants will have a walking plan to meet their needs while staying motivated, managing pain and exercising safely.

Raptor Run Set

Fairlee — The Rivendell Academy Athletic Leadership Council will stage the 10th edition of the Allen Avery Memorial Raptor Run on May 13.

The day includes multiple events, including a five-mile run or walk on the Lake Morey loop road and a one-mile family fun run. Funds raised by the Raptor Run go toward the Rivendell Interstate School District’s involvement in Special Olympics programs.

Save a Stray 5K

Sunapee — The Sullivan County Humane Society is seeking runners and walkers for its annual Save a Stray 5K on May 20, beginning and ending at Sunapee Harbor.

The race is a benefit for SCHS, which is hoping to raise $15,000 through registrations, runner sponsorships and donations. The pre-registration cost is $20, with T-shirts going to the first 100 runners to register. The race-day fee is $25. Kids ages 12 and under can participate for free.

The top male and female winners will receive $50, while the top three finishers in each age group will receive SCHS mugs. A raffle and post-race cookout are also planned.

Race Around the Lake

Barnard — The second event in the seven-race Upper Valley Running Series will be the BarnArts Race Around the Lake, a five- and 10-kilometer road and trail race around Silver Lake on May 21.

The races serve as a fundraiser for youth programming at BarnArts, a community arts organization. Both routes will take runners and walkers over back roads and scenic trails, starting and ending in Silver Lake State Park.

Advance registration, at a cost of $30 through May 14, is available by way of the link to the Upper Valley Running Series website (www.uppervalleyrunningclub.org). The cost to run increases to $35 on May 15 through race day. The 10K starts at 10:30 a.m., with the 5K to follow.

Rock Your Camo 5K

Claremont — The Greater Claremont Chamber of Commerce and the Red River Charitable Foundation will present the third Rock Your Camo 5K road race and Dirty Dash at the Arrowhead Recreation Area on May 20.

The event is a fundraiser for various veterans groups in the Upper Valley, to which all proceeds from the races will be donated. The day includes food, refreshments, face painting and a lot of camo.

The cost for the 5K is $30 for adults, $20 for active military, $15 for students and $10 for children ages 12 and under. The Dirty Dash, a muddy obstacle course for kids ages 12 and younger, is also $10. The Dirty Dash starts at 10 a.m., and the 5K kicks off at 11 a.m.
