Summerfield, Fla. — ”Jim” affectionately known by friends, was born in Claremont, N.H., on May 19, 1940. Jim passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, with his loving wife Sally by his side, at their home in Summerfield.

He leaves the love of his life Sally of 47 years; and seven children, Jeffery, Vt. Michele Miller (Dave) of Kan., Don (Dana) Tenn., Randy, (Shellie) Fla., Tonya, Vt., Cynthia Wiegand, (Jack) Vt., and Michael, Hawaii.

Jim affectionately called “POPPA” by his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will deeply miss him.

He leaves sisters, Pat Salisbury (Bob) N.C., Georgia Brock, Ky., and sister-in-law, Priscilla Banker Fla.

He was predeceased by his brother Timothy, and his Parents.

In 1958 Jim graduated from Thetford Academy along with his wife Sally (Bond). He maintained his membership in Thetford Center Methodist Church, and the American Legion, Post 0079.

In 1959 Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During his enlistment he earned his Associate Degree in Business, and Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice.

In 1969 Jim and Sally were married and later in military assignments, including Germany. The family traveled throughout Europe. In his military career he was a highly decorated, Honorable Air Force Veteran. He spent his dedicated career as a Flight Engineer on C130 Gunship aircraft. He was selected to a group of elite airman to provide support for Top Secret Commando Operations during several worldwide military conflicts including Vietnam. During his military career he received many decorations, including Meritorious Service Medal, as well as 15 Air Medals awarded for Meritorious Achievement while participating in aerial flights. He retired with 20 years of service for our country.

Upon retirement Jim and Sally enjoyed cross country transporting RVs and Boats. They moved to Spruce Creek South in May, 2009, enjoying the friendships formed, and making many friends through the volunteer efforts.

He attended the Lady Lake United Methodist Church and was a dedicated volunteer. His devotion to the church was ever present. Jim was a faithful volunteer with Operation Shoebox doing a wide variety of tasks. He enjoyed supporting our troops worldwide.

Jim was President of the Veterans Club for Spruce Creek South, and enjoyed recruiting new members, planning special events for fellow veterans.

Jim was the most Patriotic, kind, caring for others, helpful, and deeply loved by family and friends.

A Celebration of His Life was held Saturday, April 29, at Lady Lake Methodist United Church.

Full Military Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 1 p.m., at the Thetford Center Methodist Church.
