New York — Cardinals ace Carlos Martinez put on a historically uneven performance, walking a career-high eight while striking out 11 and handing CC Sabathia and the New York Yankees a 3-2 win on Saturday.

The Yankees won their sixth straight despite tying a team record by fanning 17 times. They got plenty of help from sloppy St. Louis, which at 3-8 is off to its worst start in 20 years and has the poorest record in the NL.

Martinez’s misadventures on the mound — he also airmailed a tapper to the backstop and threw a wild pitch — stood in sharp contrast to Sabathia (2-0), who took a shutout into the eighth. Jedd Gyorko and Stephen Piscotty homered late for St. Louis.

Blue Jays 2, Orioles 1

Toronto — Kendrys Morales homered off Tyler Wilson leading off the bottom of the ninth inning, and Toronto stopped a seven-game losing streak.

Roberto Osuna (1-0) had allowed Jonathan Schoop’s sacrifice fly in the top half.

Astros 10, Athletics 6

Oakland, Calif. — George Springer hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning after Nori Aoki put Houston ahead with one of his two RBIs, and the Astros rallied from a five-run deficit to beat Oakland.

Indians 13, Tigers 6

Cleveland — Jose Ramirez was 4 for 4 with a pair of three-run homers for Cleveland, and Detroit ace Justin Verlander matched a career high by allowing nine runs.

Twins 6, White Sox 0

Minneapolis — Ervin Santana pitched a one-hitter for the first complete-game victory by a pitcher in the major leagues this season, and Minnesota beat the White Sox to stop Chicago’s three-game winning streak. Santana (3-0) won his third straight start, striking out eight, walking one and retiring his final 18 batters as he lowered his ERA to 0.41.

Rockies 5, Giants 0

San Francisco — Tyler Chatwood pitched 5⅔ perfect innings before Chris Marrero’s single and finished with a two-hitter for Colorado in his first big league shutout. Chatwood (1-2) struck out four and walked one, lowering his ERA from 6.35 ERA to 3.54.

Reds 7, Brewers 5

Cincinnati — Jesse Winker doubled home the go-ahead run in the sixth off Carlos Torres (0-1) with his first major league hit, and Cincinnati overcame two more homers by Eric Thames and stopped Milwaukee’s four-game winning streak.

Pirates 8, Cubs 7

Chicago — Andrew McCutchen hit a go-ahead, three-run homer of Pedro Strop (0-1) in a five-run seventh. Pittsburgh has won two straight against the Cubs after going 4-14 against Chicago last season, including 1-8 at Wrigley Field.

Phillies 4, Nationals 2

Washington — Cesar Hernandez hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer off Joe Blanton (0-2) in the eighth. Jeremy Hellickson (2-0) allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings.

Braves 4, Padres 2

Atlanta — Winless at Turner Field, R.A. Dickey got a victory in his first appearance at SunTrust Park as Atlanta beat San Diego behind home runs from Brandon Phillips and Adonis Garcia.

Marlins 5, Mets 4

Miami — Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton hit back-to-back homers to cap a three-run eighth inning, and Miami rallied past New York.

Royals 3, Angels 2

Kansas City, Mo. — Mike Moustakas hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning, lifting Kansas City over Los Angeles.

Moustakas connected off Jose Alvarez (0-1) for his fifth home run this season.

Los Angeles had tied the score in the seventh when Cameron Maybin led off with a single against Mike Minor, Martin Maldonado walked with one out and Ben Revere hit a two-out single against Joakim Soria (1-0), who threw 38 pitches over 1⅔ innings while striking out four.
