Authorities from Lebanon, Hanover, Hartford, Claremont, Cornish, Windsor and Plainfield respond to reports of an overturned kayak on the Connecticut River on Wednesday. Lebanon Fire Chief Chris Christopoulos said the first call came in around 3 p.m. of a report of an unattended kayak floating upright on the river in the vicinity of Interstate 89. The kayak eventually was recovered about a half-mile north of the boat landing in Cornish and brought ashore by members of the Hartford Fire Department. Christopoulos said crews searched the river in boats both above and below Sumner Falls but did not locate anyone in the water. The search was called off by 5:30 p.m.
