Plainfield, N.H. —
He attended Plainfield Elementary School and graduated from Windsor High School, Class of 1956. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1956 – 1959. On May 31, 1958 he married the former Janet M. Dawson in Lebanon, N.H.
Richard had been employed by Dartmouth College Facilities and Operations Department for 20 years, retiring in 2001. Previously he was a self-employed farmer and also logged and sold firewood. He enjoyed hunting and was a very loving father, grandfather and compassionate caregiver to his wife.
Members of his family include his wife of 58 years, Janet M. Read, Plainfield; a son, Richard P. Read, Jr., Plainfield; a daughter, Terrie M. Clukey and her husband, Brian, Plainfield; four grandchildren, Brian Clukey, Shelbie Clukey, Zackary Read, Kieren Read; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Janet A. Nugent.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes there will be no visiting hours or services at this time.
