Women Veterans’ Programs Set at VA

White River Junction — Two free programs for women veterans will kick off this spring and summer at the VA Medical Center Women’s Comprehensive Care Center.

A writing workshop will meet Mondays from 4:30-6 p.m., May 1 to June 5, with no class on May 29. The series will be led by author Joni Cole, founder of the Writer’s Center in White River Junction. No writing experience is required.

Participants will come together to write, as a means of exploring their ideas and feelings, sharing experiences, and connecting with other women veterans, according to a news release from the medical center. Writing shared within the group will remain confidential.

A book group will meet every other Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m., July 19 to Sept. 27.

The group provides an opportunity to connect with other veterans, build relationships, read insightful materials and share experiences, the release said. It will be led by Suzanne Brown, a Dartmouth visiting assistant professor, and Carey Russ, women veterans program manager.

Participants will receive free copies of the readings, which include Shoot Like a Girl, by Mary Jennings Hegar; Hidden Figures, by Margot Lee Shetterly; “Sur,” by Ursula Le Guin; and Grounded, by George Brant. A light dinner will be provided at each meeting.

To register for the book group, or for one or more writing sessions, contact Russ at 802-295-9363, ext. 5743, or Carey.Russ@va.gov.

D-H Physicians Are ‘Top Docs’ In New Hampshire

A total of 86 Dartmouth-Hitchcock physicians representing 40 specialties were named among the best doctors in New Hampshire, according to New Hampshire Magazine’s annual “Top Doc” survey.

Earlier this year, the magazine, in partnership with research company Castle Connolly Medical, distributed surveys to every physician licensed to practice in the Granite State, asking them to nominate specialists in 55 categories whom they would recommend to friends and family for treatment. The top vote-getters were named as the leading physicians in their respective specialties.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock physicians were voted “Top Docs” in 40 of the 55 categories.
