Claremont — After competing and medaling in the 2017 Special Olympics World Games, Claremont athlete Eric Lemieux was honored with a commendation at Governor Sununu’s Cabinet meeting Wednesday.

Lemieux, 26, competed in the world games in Austria last month, said Lemieux’s mother, Beth Lemieux, who is the local program coordinator for Special Olympics New Hampshire.

He was one of 24 U.S. athletes to compete in snowshoeing and won a bronze medal in the 4×100 meter relay.

More than 2,400 athletes from 105 countries competed in the world games, which included alpine and nordic skiing, snowboarding, and figure and speed skating.

Eric Lemieux has competed in Special Olympics events for 15 years and is a member of the Claremont Cool Cats Special Olympics team.

Also honored by the governor was Ellie Coe, of Hopkinton, N.H.
