The self-management program is being offered by Gifford Health Care, Vermont Blueprint for Health, the Vermont Department of Health and the Greater Burlington YMCA. It is designed for adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The risk of developing diabetes is higher for people who are overweight or obese, don’t get enough exercise, or have high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, or a parent, brother, or sister with diabetes, organizers said in a news release.
The prevention program includes education and support to help participants become more active, lose weight and “decrease their risk of getting diabetes,” the release said. The first session is set for April 4, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Subsequent classes will meet every Tuesday for 16 weeks, then every other week, and then monthly, for a total of 25 sessions over the course of a year. To register, call 802-728-7714.

The reaccreditation process includes a peer-review evaluation by expert medical physicists and board-certified physicians, according to a news release from Gifford. Equipment, image quality, personnel qualifications, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are all assessed.
Nuclear medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and treat heart disease, several types of cancers, and other abnormalities within the body, the release said.
Mammography uses a low-dose X-ray system to help detect and diagnose breast disease.
