Charleston, s.c. — For the second straight game, freshman Trevor Johnson hit a leadoff home run, and sophomore Cole O’Connor threw six strong innings to lead the Dartmouth College baseball team to a 7-2 victory over The Citadel on Thursday afternoon at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.

Sophomore Nate Ostmo also homered for the Big Green (5-2) and drove in three runs while three Dartmouth pitchers contained a Bulldog (5-11) offense that scored a school-record 34 runs two days earlier.

O’Connor (1-0) earned his first career victory for the Big Green by yielding just two runs on five hits over his six innings, walking only the first batter he faced while fanning two. The right-hander needed just 76 pitches before giving way to freshman Michael Parsons, who struck out three in 2⅓ innings.

Chargers Sweep

Auburndale, Fla. — Colby-Sawyer (5-4) won both ends of a doubleheader against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (3-4) at the Lake Myrtle Complex The Chargers won game one, 3-1, and game two, 8-6, in eight innings.

Chris Mitchell Jr. tossed a six-hitter for the Chargers in game one.

Woodstock resident Doug Avellino finished with three hits, three stolen bases, two runs and two RBIs in game two, when Colby-Sawyer scored two runs in the top of the eighth for the win. Avellino singled in Jackson Musco, and with the go ahead run. Avellino scored on a bloop hit from Justin Devoid, of Quechee.

Colby-Sawyer will conclude its spring break trip today with two games against Springfield College.
