Charlestown  — Town Clerk Kelly Stoddart lost her re-election bid to Patricia Chaffee in Tuesday’s only contested race on the ballot.

Chaffee, who lost to Stoddart last year, won 298-284.

Voters approved the $4.17 million town operating budget and all other warrant articles except for a petition article that would have separated the town clerk/tax collector position by making the tax collector an appointed position and kept the town clerk as elected.

Also approved were appropriations for several capital reserve funds, including real estate appraisal and highway heavy equipment, and modified property tax exemptions for the elderly and disabled.
