New Haven, Conn. — Yale’s Andrew Gaus scored with 6:27 left in overtime to defeat the Dartmouth College men’s hockey team, 3-2, Saturday night at Ingalls Rink and earn the sweep of their ECAC Hockey first-round series.

The ninth-seeded Big Green’s season ends, while the No. 8 Bulldogs (13-13-5) move on to next weekend’s quarterfinals.

Dartmouth (10-18-3) freshman Cam Strong scored 1:19 into the game — his 10th of the season — the team’s second-fastest goal to start a game this season. Yale’s Mike Doherty tied the game early in the second with the first of his two goals, only to be answered a few minutes later by the Big Green’s Grant Opperman.

That’s how the score remained until Doherty picked the inside of the post from the top of the circles with 6:32 remaining in regulation, forcing the OT period.

Dartmouth’s Devin Buffalo finished with 35 saves, while Yale’s Sam Tucker had 44.

Men’s Basketball

Princeton 85, Dartmouth 48

Princeton, n.j. — The Big Green scored on each of its first three possessions, but not much else went right in a loss to the Tigers, who won their 17th straight game while bringing Dartmouth’s season to a close.

The outcome not only denied the Big Green (7-20, 4-10 Ivy) the possibility of a trip to the inaugural Ivy League Tournament, but also allowed Princeton (21-6, 14-0 Ivy) to record the first perfect conference season by any Ancient Eight team in nine years.

A total of 13 Tigers produced points, with Spencer Weisz and Myles Stephens leading the way with 13 apiece. The Tigers shot 50 percent (34-of-68) with 11 3-pointers.

Sophomore Evan Boudreaux was the lone Dartmouth player in double figures with 15 points.

The Big Green erased a 6-3 deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

The Big Green will have two weeks off, returning to action on March 18 at North Carolina.

Women’s Tennis

Hanover — The 23rd-ranked Big Green swept to its ninth win in 10 starts, blanking the Minutewomen at the Boss Center.

Senior Taylor Ng and junior Kristina Mathis had an easy 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, with junior Julia Schroeder and freshman Racquel Lyn following with 7-6 victory at No. 2 to claim the doubles point. Dartmouth didn’t surrender a set in sweeping to all six singles wins.

Dartmouth is off until a four-match trip to spring beginning at San Diego on March 19.
