An informational meeting to review the items to be voted on by ballot at Vershire Town Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, March 5, at 2 p.m., at the Town Center. Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 7, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Town Center. Ballot voting to elect officials and decide the budget and other spending requests will run that day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Vershire Historical Society wing of the Town Center.

Vershire — Voters will be asked to authorize the purchase of a 10-wheel highway truck to replace the town’s aging 2007 vehicle.

The article dictates that the cost of the truck not exceed $180,000. Part of the funding will come from trading in the current truck; $30,000 would be appropriated from the capital equipment fund; and the remainder would be funded through a five-year loan.

“We find it very efficient,” Selectman Marc McKee said. “We won’t need another truck for a while.”

The town’s proposed municipal budget is $264,130. Last year, voters approved a $384,000 budget, which included $119,500 for a culvert replacement on Durgin Hill. However, the state reimbursed 80 percent of that amount, which put the budget more in line with years past.

“We’re still holding steady,” McKee said.

The proposed highway budget is $326,694, down about $20,000 from the previous year.

“We have an excellent road crew,” McKee said of Vershire’s two road crew employees. “They’re saving the town money.”

The warning includes an article requesting $25,000 for the town garage fund. While the town has purchased property to build a new garage, the project is still in the planning stages, McKee said.

The current municipal tax rate of 70 cents per $100 of valuation, which translates to $1,750 on a home assessed at $250,000, is expected to remain the same, town officials said.

The overall tax rate will not be set until after the Rivendell Interstate School District meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on March 21 at Rivendell Academy.

McKee is running unopposed for another three-year term on the Selectboard. Voters also will be asked to approve $33,728 for Vershire Fire and Rescue, as well as $35,000 for the capital equipment fund; $50,000 for the capital paving fund; and $7,965 for 10 area nonprofit organizations.
